now and for ever. Amen.

Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
We worship you, O eternal God,
for you have shown us the light of the Father,
were born of the Virgin,
and appeared among us as man.
On this day of your manifestation at the Jordan
we praise you and give you glory,
now and for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
Your throne stands firm from of old;
from everlasting you are, O Lord.
Psalm 93
The Lord is king, in splendor robed;
robed is the Lord and girt about with strength;
And he has made the world firm,
not to be moved.
Your throne stands firm from of old;
from everlasting you are, O Lord.
The floods lift up, O Lord,
the floods lift up their voice;
the floods lift up their tumult.
More powerful than the roar of many waters,
more powerful than the breakers of the sea—
powerful on high is the Lord.
You decrees are worthy of trust indeed;
holiness befits your house,
O Lord, for length of days.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon:
Your throne stands firm from of old;
from everlasting you are, O Lord.
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
God from God and Light from Light,
let your light shine brightly on those in darkness.
May we rejoice as you manifest yourself to
our hearts and spirits,
and we will give you glory and praise,
now and for ever. Amen.
NUHRO (HYMN OF LIGHT)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright in Christ Jesus,
our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested Himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the
radiance of his light.
Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away.
From the true Light there arises from us the light which illumines our darkened eyes.
His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.
Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in
light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.
He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.
Our King comes in majestic glory,
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.
Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to
the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with
hope and salvation.
When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in
weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.
The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the
glory of the just and upright people of the earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.
Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great
glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
We adore and confess you, One God in three persons,
for you appeared in a wondrous manner at the baptism
of the Son,
when the Father gave witness to him,
and the Spirit descended upon him.
We adore your trinity, give witness to your unity,
and praise you
now and for ever. Amen.
MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;
Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;
He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;
Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;
You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;
You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.
Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,
Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,
Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.
Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Alleluia.
Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;
Let the high praises of God be in their throats.
Alleluia.
Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.
Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.
Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.
Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.
Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.
Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!
Alleluia.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the Savior who redeemed
us and gave us life,
the eternal Light who has enlightened our darkness
and guides us along his way.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.
SEDRO
Eternal Light,
you enlightened all who come into this world,
as you have enlightened the angels in heaven.
You came to bring light to Adam whom you formed,
and you instituted holy baptism, the mystery of our rebirth by water and the Spirit.
You fulfilled the words of the prophets:
Moses, to whom you gave an image of baptism through the
water and the clouds;
David, who heard your voice when he sang:
“The waters saw you, O God, and the Jordan trembled
and returned to its sources;”
Jeremiah, who saw you when he said:
“Here is a man whose name is light which shone
in the darkness.”
Indeed, through your manifestation and baptism, well-beloved
Son, you fulfilled all the symbols and prophecies.
Now, we ask you to grant health to the sick;
guide those who wander astray;
grant hope to the broken hearted and pardon to sinners;
be a father to orphans and a support for the widows.
O God, assist the priests, sanctify men and women religious,
purify all believers who rest in your hope,
and we will glorify and praise you,
now and for ever. Amen.
QOLO
Lord, your flock honors your holy baptism, rejoices at your
marvelous manifestation, and thanks you for your humility.
In your baptism, the Jordan rejoiced and its waters were sanctified.
At the edge of the water, John became fearful in your presence.
In your baptism, prophets rejoiced because you fulfilled their prophecies and their symbols.
In your baptism, the Church rejoiced because you established the mystery of baptism for the pardon of sins and the sanctification of souls.
Today the Church exclaims, sings and give thanks:
Holy are you, O God, because you condescended to be
baptized in the Jordan.
Holy are you, O Strong One, because by your baptism you have
forgiven her sins and sanctified her.
Holy are you, O Immortal One, through baptism you gave us life.
Lord, have mercy on the holy Church and her children who
celebrate the feast of your baptism.
ETRO
O Christ our God,
Word of the eternal Father,
you became man for us and received baptism in the Jordan;
on this blessed day received our incense and our prayers by which we thank you and seek your grace.
We will glorify you,
now and for ever. Amen.
MAZMOORO
Today, the waters were blessed by the baptism of the Son of God and baptism is sanctified for the pardon of the sins of
Adam’s children.
People, listen: today the waters are blessed; take note all of you inhabitants of earth: today baptism is sanctified.
You accepted the offerings made by righteous before us, now
accept, Lord, our worship and be attentive to our prayers.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the First Book of Kings
1 Kings 21: 1-15
Some time after this, as Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard in Jezreel next to the palace of Ahab, king of Samaria, Ahab said to Naboth, “Give me your vineyard to be my vegetable garden, since it is close by, next to my house. I will give you a better vineyard in exchange, or, if you prefer, I will give you its value in money.” “The LORD forbid,” Naboth answered him,
“that I should give you my ancestral heritage.” Ahab went home disturbed and angry at the answer Naboth the Jezreelite had made to him: “I will not give you my ancestral heritage.” Lying down on his bed, he turned away from food and would not eat. His wife Jezebel came to him and said to him, “Why are you so angry that you will not eat?” He answered her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and said to him, ‘Sell me your vineyard, or, if you prefer, I will give you a vineyard in exchange.’ But he refused to let me have his vineyard.” “A fine ruler over Israel you are indeed!” his wife Jezebel said to him. “Get up. Eat and be cheerful. I will obtain the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite for you.” So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and, having sealed them with his seal, sent them to the elders and to the nobles who lived in the same city with Naboth. This is what she wrote in the letters: “Proclaim a fast and set Naboth at the head of the people. Next, get two scoundrels to face him and accuse him of having cursed God and king. Then take him out and stone him to death.” His fellow citizens — the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city — did as Jezebel had ordered them in writing, through the letters she had sent them. They proclaimed a fast and placed Naboth at the head of the people. Two scoundrels came in and confronted him with the accusation, “Naboth has cursed God and king.”
And they led him out of the city and stoned him to death. Then they sent the information to Jezebel that Naboth had been stoned to death. When Jezebel learned that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, “Go on, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite which he refused to sell you, because Naboth is not alive, but dead.”
