May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
O God,
give us knowledge of all good things
that we may worthily celebrate this great and holy day,
this glorious Sunday, through right conduct and virtuous works.
And we will glorify, adore and praise you,
your Father and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples,
for steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord Most High,
by humbling yourself, you raised us from our lowliness;
O free One, you delivered yourself to death
to free us from the bondage of sin.
As you have saved us by handing yourself over to death
and have given us cause to rejoice,
so renew us by the light of your face.
Praise be to you, now and for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
And of Zion they shall say: “One and all were born in her;
and he who has established her is the Most High Lord.”
Psalm 87
His foundation upon the holy mountains
the Lord loves,
The gates of Zion,
more than any dwelling of Jacob.
Glorious things are said of you,
O city of God!
I tell of Egypt and Babylon
among those that know the Lord;
Of Philistia, Tyre, Ethyiopia:
“This man was born there.”
And of Zion they shall say:
“One and all were born in her;
And he who has established her
is the Most High Lord.”
They shall note, when the people are enrolled:
“This man was born there.”
And all shall sing, in their festive dance:
“My home is within you.”
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon:
And of Zion they shall say: “One and all were born in her;
and he who has established her is the Most High Lord.”
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
we praise you, the Light who dispels the darkness of sin from
this world.
You enlightened the sorrowful creatures who awaited
your teaching;
the people who dwelt in darkness have seen a great light.
To you, the salvation of the living and the dead, be praise
and glory,
now and for ever. Amen.
EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141:1-4
O Lord, to you I call; hasten to me;
harken to my voice when I call upon you.
Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.
O Lord, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.
Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness
With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.
Psalm 142
With aloud voice I cry out to the Lord;
with a loud voice I beseech the Lord.
My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.
When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.
In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.
I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.
I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.
I cry out to you, O Lord:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land
of the living.”
Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.
The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.
Psalm 119: 105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.
I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.
I am very much afflicted;
O Lord, give me life according to your word.
Accept, O Lord, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.
Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.
Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.
I intend in my heart to fulfill you statutes
always to the letter.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
[HYMN]
ˇ
The Hymn, “The Resurrection of Christ” (page 165) may
be sung following the Evening Psalms.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the living One who does not die;
by his death has given life to his creatures
by his resurrection he has saved his Church
and by his transfiguration he has given joy to his flock.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this evening,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.
SEDRO
Lord God, our Creator,
all living things adore you,
and every creature exalt your only Son.
Through you all thins came into being.
On the first day, by your command, you separated light
from darkness;
the resplendent day appeared in the world,
which you had made out of love for Adam,
image of your majesty and sign of your eternal love.
When you became flesh on earth,
you dwelt among us;
then you entered the tomb and were counted among the dead.
But from within the tomb your light shone
and the dead gave witness to your goodness when you came to them; to them you accorded hope.
You adorned the angels with the radiance of your light,
and like lightening, they shone around your tomb.
On this Sunday,
we ask you to remember the dead who sleep in your hope.
When a sign from you will make the dead rise from the tomb,
let them take a place at your right hand an rest in the blessed dwelling of your Father.
With them we will give thanks to you, O Good One,
your Father and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
QOLO
Holy are you, O God, angels and men proclaim you holy in
heaven and on earth.
Holy are you, O Strong One, in your love you have called all
sinners to return to you.
Holy are you, O Immortal One, at your door sinners knock and
ask pardon.
Lord of mercy and God of all consolation, grant us guidance
pardon and remission of faults.
Lord, may we return to you and come to the paradise of
happiness filled with delight.
And we will give you glory and thanksgiving, now and for ever.
ETRO
Lord God,
grant that by our good works we may be a sweet fragrance
before you,
by our holy lives a pleasing perfume,
by our faith a pure incense,
and by our perfect witness resplendent temples.
Receive our prayers and grant our petitions;
in your love hear our requests and help us;
give rest to the souls of our departed in the dwelling of joy.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Exodus
Exodus 17: 106
From the desert of Sin the whole Israelite community journeyed by stages, as the LORD directed, and encamped at Rephidim. They quarreled, therefore, with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to a test?”
Here, then, in their thirst for water, the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “Why did you ever make us leave Egypt? Was it just to have us die here of thirst with our children and our livestock?” So Moses cried out to the LORD,
“What shall I do with this people? A little more and they will stone me!” The LORD answered Moses, “Go over there in front of the people, along with some of the elders of Israel, holding in your hand, as you go, the staff with which you struck the river. I will be standing there in front of you on the rock in Horeb. Strike the rock, and the water will flow from it for the people to drink.” This Moses did, in the presence of the elders of Israel.
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 13: 16-25
So Paul got up, motioned with his hand, and said, “Fellow Israelites and you others who are God-fearing, listen. The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors and exalted the people during their sojourn in the land of Egypt. With uplifted arm he led them out of it and for about forty years he put up with them in the desert. When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance at the end of about four hundred and fifty years. After these things he provided judges up to Samuel [the] prophet. Then they asked for a king. God gave them Saul, son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. Then he removed him and raised up David as their king; of him he testified, ‘I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will carry out my every wish.’ From this man’s descendants God, according to his promise, has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus. John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel; and as John was completing his course, he would say, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.’
SUPPLICATION
O Son, by your resurrection you have saved your Church from
error; hear our supplication and have mercy on us.
You reconciled heaven and earth, grant peace to your Church and keep her children in the light of the cross.
Make your Church rejoice on this great day, O Son of God, and
confirm your children by the cross of light with which they
are marked. Let your peace reign among her choirs and
your feasts increase in the shadow of your peace.
May she be kept from false teachings; may she work each day
with the builders of faith, may your day be a feast which
dispels all anxiety and may your peace always reign in her
gatherings.
May rebels who seek to corrupt her be put on the right path;
Lord, may your cross be a sheepfold for her shepherds
where they gather all the sheep to your Father.
Son of God, your Church praises you on the day of your feast
and her children raise songs of glory at your manifestation.
Lord, keep your Church and her children from all evil so
that they may praise you on the day of your feast. Praise
be to you, for ever.
Let us remember the prophets, apostles and martyrs, and all those who have labored and suffered in the vineyard of the Lord:
Saint James, Saint Maron and his companions and Saint
Ephrem, harp of the Holy Spirit. O God, through their
prayers strengthen the weak, comfort the sick, grant pardon
to the deceased, and forgive the faults of us poor sinners.
Exalt, O Lord, the memory of your Mother and your saints;
through their prayers grant pardon to us and our deceased.
Through the prayers of your Mother, the prophets, apostles
and martyrs, watch over the living and in your mercy,
forgive those who have died.
