and peace on earth and good will to all.

and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.

FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
you led your just ones on their way to the Father
and established them in the dwelling prepared for them
in the kingdom.
Help us walk in their footsteps in this life,
and to come to their dwelling place in eternity,
to praise the glorious Trinity,
for ever.
Amen.

PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
The just man shall be
in everlasting remembrance.

Psalm 112
Happy the man who fears the Lord,
who greatly delights in his commands.

His posterity shall be mighty upon the earth;
the upright generation shall be blessed.

Wealth and riches shall be in his house;
his generosity shall endure forever.

He dawns through the darkness, a light for the upright;
he is gracious and merciful and just.

Well for the man who is gracious and lends,
who conducts his affairs with justice;

He shall never be moved;
the just man shall be in everlasting remembrance.

An evil report he shall not fear;
his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.

His heart is steadfast; he shall not fear
till he looks down upon his foes.

Lavishly he gives to the poor;
his generosity shall endure forever;
his horn shall be exalted in glory.

The wicked man shall see it and be vexed;
he shall gnash his teeth and pine away;
the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon:
The just man shall be
in everlasting remembrance.

SECOND PRAYER
Lord have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
you are the light who shines in heaven, like divine wisdom
on the saints;
you are the joy from on high, who pours out grace and
holiness on the elect;
you are the almighty Power, through whom the saints
conquered evil and its power.
Grant us light, that we may turn toward you;
joy, that we may rejoice in you
and strength, that with you we may triumph.
Then we will praise and glorify you,
now and for ever.
Amen.

NUHRO (HYMN OF LIGHT)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested Himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the
radiance of his light.

Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away.
From the true Light there arises from us the light which illumines our darkened eyes.

His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.

Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.

He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.

Our King comes in majestic glory,
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.

Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to
the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with
hope and salvation.

When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in
weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.

The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the
glory of the just and upright people of the earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.

Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great
glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen. Alleluia.

THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O God,
into your eternal rest you welcomed the souls of the just who
bore the burdens and heat of the day.
By good works they developed the gifts they received.
They rejoice now to see your face and praise you with the angels.
Help us to imitate them, merit their reward, and with them to
praise you, for ever.
Amen.

MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;

Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.

Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.

Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;

He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;

Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;

You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;

You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.

Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,

Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,

Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;

His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.

Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.

Alleluia.

Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.

Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.

Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.

Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;

Let the high praises of God be in their throats.

Alleluia.

Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.

Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.

Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.

Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.

Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.

Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!

Alleluia.

Psalm 117

glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Alleluia.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to him who has chosen the just one,
that they may announce his justice,
and the righteous, that they may proclaim his righteousness.
To him the prophets, apostles, martyrs, teachers, confessors,
and virgins bore witness.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever.
Amen.

SEDRO
Eternal Light,
from you shines all light in the world and you illuminate
all truth,
you have made the flames of truth and holiness shine in your
holy Church go guide those who travel on the road of life.
The apostles, announcers of the truth, went about the earth
making conquests for the gospel.
The martyrs offered their lives and shed their blood for the
truth they held.
The teachers dedicated themselves to the study of the Word of
God in order to present it in all its purity.
The virgins and monks, ascetics and priests left all to follow Christ in carrying his cross.
They fulfilled his commandments, walked according to his gospel, and persevered in mortification, fasting, worship and prayer.
They consecrated their lives to the service of God and of their brothers and sisters.
Truly they were angels of purity and mercy, the salt of the earth and light of the world.
Through their intercession, O God, help us to keep their faith, walk in their hope and to live in their charity;
then we will merit their happiness and rejoice with them
in contemplating your face and praising you, for ever.
Amen.

QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you fulfilled what the prophets announced.

Holy are you, O Strong One, you conquered the world and
overcame the strong through weak apostles.

Holy are you, O Immortal One, you died to give eternal life to those who die for you.

Today the Church celebrates their memory, and asks you,
through their intercession, to give peace to your Church that
we may always praise you.

ETRO
O God,
accept the perfume of our incense and prayers in memory of
your saints and just ones.
Through their prayers, forgive our faults and grant rest to those who died in the faith.
Then we will all praise and glorify you, for ever.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Wisdom
Wisdom 5: 1-16
Then shall the just one with great assurance confront his oppressors who set at nought his labors.
Seeing this, they shall be shaken with dreadful fear, and amazed at the unlooked-for salvation.
They shall say among themselves, rueful and groaning through anguish of spirit: “This is he whom once we held as a laughingstock and as a type for mockery, fools that we were! His life we accounted madness, and his death dishonored. See how he is accounted among the sons of God; how his lot is with the saints! We, then, have strayed from the way of truth, and the light of justice did not shine for us, and the sun did not rise for us. We had our fill of the ways of mischief and of ruin; we journeyed through impassable deserts, but the way of the LORD we knew not. What did our pride avail us? What have wealth and its boastfulness afforded us? All of them passed like a shadow and like a fleeting rumor; Like a ship traversing the heaving water, of which, when it has passed, no trace can be found, no path of its keel in the waves. Or like a bird flying through the air; no evidence of its course is to be found —

But the fluid air, lashed by the beat of pinions, and cleft by the rushing force Of speeding wings, is traversed: and afterward no mark of passage can be found in it. Or as, when an arrow has been shot at a mark, the parted air straightway flows together again so that none discerns the way it went through — Even so we, once born, abruptly came to nought and held no sign of virtue to display, but were consumed in our wickedness.” Yes, the hope of the wicked is like thistledown borne on the wind, and like fine, tempest-driven foam; Like smoke scattered by the wind, and like the passing memory of the nomad camping for a single day. But the just live forever, and in the LORD is their recompense, and the thought of them is with the Most High. Therefore shall they receive the splendid crown, the beauteous diadem, from the hand of the LORD — For he shall shelter them with his right hand, and protect them with his arm.

A Reading from the Book of Revelation
Revelation 14: 1-5
Then I looked and there was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. I heard a sound from heaven like the sound of rushing water or a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. They were singing what seemed to be a new hymn before the throne, before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn this hymn except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ransomed from the earth. These are they who were not defiled with women; they are virgins and these are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They have been ransomed as the firstfruits of the human race for God and the Lamb. On their lips no deceit has been found; they are unblemished.
