INTRODUCTION
DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
O Lord,
we recall your wonderful sign, on this blessed Sunday morning, when you opened the eyes of the blind man.
May we praise you with eyes full of light
and a believing conscience.
May this light which you cause to shine on us today
be a pledge of the splendor of your eternal light upon our faces.
We shall then see you face to face and glorify you,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.
PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
Light from Light and God from God,
you became flesh for us
and made yourself like us in all things but sin.
You wished to open the eyes of the blind Bartimaeus,
so that we might know that you are the Light coming into the world
and that whoever follows you will not walk in darkness.
Grant to us today, and at the end of this Lent, to always keep our gaze fixed on your divine splendor,
and we shall live for you alone,
now and for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
To you I lift up my eyes who are enthroned
in heaven.
Psalm 123
To you I lift up my eyes
who are enthroned in heaven.
Behold, as the eyes of servants
are on the hands of their masters,
As the eyes of a maid
are on the hands of her mistress,
So are our eyes on the Lord, our God,
till he have pity on us.
Have pity on us, O Lord, have pity on us,
for we are more than sated with contempt;
Our souls are more than sated
with the mockery of the arrogant,
with the contempt of the proud.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon:
To you I lift up my eyes who are enthroned
in heaven.
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
you open darkened eyes
and make your sun shine on the just and the unjust.
Shine the light of your knowledge in our hearts,
that we may understand your gospel teachings
and make them part of our lives,
as we await your great Day when you will allow us to enter the paradise of light
and praise you, for ever.
Amen.
NUHRO (HYMN OF LIGHT)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright is Christ Jesus, our Lord, Begotten of the Father, he manifested himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.
Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away.
From the true Light there arises for us the light which illumines our darkened eyes.
His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.
Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.
He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.
Our King comes in majestic glory,
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.
Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with hope and salvation.
When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.
The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the glory of the just and upright people of the earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.
Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
you created and ordered all things.
With wonder and wisdom you have spread out the heavens and the earth.
Grant us, therefore, to contemplate your mysteries and understand your teachings,
that with all creation we may praise you
and glorify you Father and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the LORD from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;
Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for he commanded and they were created;
He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.
Praise the LORD from the earth;
you see monsters and all depths;
Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;
You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;
You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.
Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,
Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,
Praise the name of the LORD,
for his name alone is exalted;
His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.
Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Alleluia.
Psalm 149: 1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the LORD a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the LORD loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy upon their couches;
Let the high praises of God be in their throats.
Alleluia.
Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the LORD in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.
Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.
Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.
Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.
Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.
Let everything that has breath
praise the LORD!
Alleluia.
Psalm 117
Praise the LORD, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to him who said,
“Let there be light,” and there was light;
to the shining Ray of the Father, who shines on the world and has scattered the darkness;
to the Spirit, who keeps us now in the light of faith.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.
SEDRO
Glory to you, heavenly Light,
in your love you came among us.
Glory to you, divine Physician who alone heals,
you turned towards us and dressed our wounds.
It is your compassion and love for us which impelled
you to take upon yourself our nature
and to walk among us as Lord, Shepherd,
Model and Physician.
You established this Lent
that we light reflect upon our lives and return to you.
Without hesitation may we confess you
hope in you without giving way to doubt, and love you unconditionally.
Then we shall be worthy to bear your name among all peoples.
In these days of Lent
we beg you to grant us true repentance for our shortcomings and faults.
Enlighten our eyes with you light,
as you enlightened those of the blind man on the road to Jericho.
Grant strength and courage to your Church
so that she may carry the torch of your gospel throughout the world.
Have mercy on all who call upon you, O God,
and do not consider our human weakness.
Fill our hearts with the joy of possessing you;
console us in your mercy and make us, together with our dead, worthy of the wonderful light of your eternal glory.
Then we will praise you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.
QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you humbled yourself to live among us.
Holy are you, O Strong One, in your love you called sinners to repentance and pardon.
Holy are you, O Immortal One, at whose door contrite hearts knock and beg.
O Christ, who was crucified for us, have mercy on us and pardon us.
ETRO
O Lord,
full of goodness,
this morning we beg you to accept this incense and our prayers which we offer for your people and your flock.
Accept our penance as you accepted that of the people of Ninevah and the just before us.
In this world may we know you
and in eternity may we look upon your face
and praise you with the saints, for ever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
Blessed be Christ who opens the door to those who weep over their sins. Blessed be the merciful One who gave the kingdom to the good.
I lift my eyes towards you who live in the heavens; have mercy on us,
Lord, have mercy on us.
Repent, sinner, repent while there is still time; on the day of judgment you will enter the paradise of light with the just.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Prophet Isaiah
Isaiah 42: 13-20
The LORD goes forth like a hero, like a warrior he stirs up his ardor; He shouts out his battle cry, against his enemies he shows his might: I have looked away, and kept silence, I have said nothing, holding myself in; But now, I cry out as a woman in labor, gasping and panting. I will lay waste mountains and hills, all their herbage I will dry up; I will turn the rivers into marshes, and the marshes I will dry up. I will lead the blind on their journey; by paths unknown I will guide them.
I will turn darkness into light before them, and make crooked ways straight. These things I do for them, and I will not forsake them.
They shall be turned back in utter shame who trust in idols; Who say to molten images,
“You are our gods.” You who are deaf, listen, you who are blind, look and see! Who is blind but my servant, or deaf like the messenger I send? You see many things without taking note; your ears are open, but without hearing.
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 9:
1-22
Now Saul, still breathing murderous threats against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, that, if he should find any men or women who belonged to the Way, he might bring them back to Jerusalem in chains. On his journey, as he was nearing Damascus, a light from the sky suddenly flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,
“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” He said, “Who are you, sir?” The reply came,
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do.” The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, for they heard the voice but could see no one. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing; so they led him by the hand and brought him to Damascus.
For three days he was unable to see, and he neither ate nor drank. There was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias, and the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” He answered, “Here I am, Lord.” The Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is there praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, that he may regain his sight.” But Ananias replied, “Lord, I have heard from many sources about this man, what evil things he has done to your holy ones in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call upon your name.”
But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites, and I will show him what he will have to suffer for my name.” So Ananias went and entered the house; laying his hands on him, he said, “Saul, my brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus who appeared to you on the way by which you came, that you may regain
your sight and be filled with the holy Spirit.”
Immediately things like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his sight. He got up and was baptized, and when he had eaten, he recovered his strength. He stayed some days with the disciples in Damascus, and he began at once to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. All who heard him were astounded and said, “Is not this the man who in Jerusalem ravaged those who call upon this name, and came here expressly to take them back in chains to the chief priests?” But Saul grew all the stronger and confounded the Jews who lived in Damascus, proving that this is the Messiah.
