Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.

OPENING PRAYER
O Christ,
you raised Lazarus from the dead
and revealed that you are the resurrection and the life.
Create in us a spirit of repentance,
so that we might live pure and good lives
and share in your glorious resurrection.
We shall then unceasingly praise you, your Father
and Holy Spirit,
for ever. Amen.

GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.

PRAISE OF THE ANGELS

Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
you who probe hearts and unveil consciences,
you for whom nothing remains hidden,
nevertheless asked, “Where have you put him?”
Do not inquire about our transgressions,
but look upon us as you looked upon Lazarus,
who made you cry.
Send us as you sent him when you raised him;
then we shall praise you, with your Father and Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.

O Lord, how many are my adversaries!

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
you are the Light which dissipates the darkness of hell; you have illumined the places of the dead;
you are the powerful One who raised the daughter of Jarius, the widow’s son and Lazarus.
On this morning, enlighten us with your light
and on the day of the resurrection
may the light of your face shine upon us.
May we be raised up by you and live through you
so that we might praise you, with your Father and Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.

NUHRO (HYMN OF LIGHT)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright is Christ Jesus, our Lord, Begotten of the Father, he manifested himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.

Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away.
From the true Light there arises for us the light which illumines our darkened eyes.

His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.

Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.

He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.

Our King comes in majestic glory,
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.

Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with hope and salvation.

When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.
The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the glory of the just and upright people of the earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.
Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.

THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Son of God,
by your power Lazarus is raised from the tomb.
O Son of Man,
by your resurrection man has triumphed over death.
Death no longer has domination over him,
since you promised that he would pass from death
to life without death.

May we place our hope in your promise,
you who have conquered death and raised the dead.
Thus we too shall conquer the death of perdition
and with you enter the kingdom of the Father
to live in the glory of the Trinity,
for ever. Amen.

O Lord,
how marvelous is the miracle you performed at Bethany, but even more marvelous is the secret which you revealed.
When you heard that your friend was sick,
you said to your disciples:
“This sickness in not mortal, but it is for the glory of God.
It must serve to glorify the Son of God.”
You said to Lazarus’ two sisters,
who came to you weeping:
“I am the resurrection and the life.
Whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.”
With this word, you wished to instill faith before raising the dead,
to give life to the soul before healing the body.
Martha then said:
“I believe you are the Christ, the one who is to come into the world.”
You then went to the tomb and cried out in a loud voice:
“Lazarus, come out.”
Faith was the cause which permitted the miracles and
miracles were performed to affirm and perfect the faith.
It was you at the same time who gave faith and miracles, who truly are the resurrection and the life.
You are the origin of the power which resurrects the dead and the love which gives life.
The miracles were a sign and you yourself are a sign, Lord Jesus.
You confirm your words; you reveal yourself symbolically and pour forth your truth like a perfume.
In the presence of such a miracle, we proclaim like Martha:
“I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God,
the One who is to come into the world.”
It is in this faith that we wish to life our present life and it is in this faith that we wish to appear before you at our judgment.
With your chosen ones, may we praise you for ever. Amen.

QOLO
At Bethany, one hears the tears and the wailing.
Martha says to Mary: “Lord, if you had been here,
my brother would not have died.”
Mary, grieving, repeats the words of her sister.
The two sisters cry at the feet of Jesus.

Blessed is the One who said
“I am the resurrection and the life.”
and who resurrected Lazarus from the tomb.

ETRO
O living One who gave life to Lazarus,
whose light shines in the places of the dead,
grant us life through the mystery of your body and blood, the pledge of a glorious resurrection,
so that we might praise and glorify you,
for ever. Amen.

READINGS
MAZMOORO
Blessed are you, friend of Jesus,
through the power of Christ you are raised
and through the consolation of Christ, you console your sisters.

Our Lord says: “I am the resurrection and the life;
whoever believes in me, even if he is dead, lives.”

Glory to you, Lord Jesus!
By a word from your mouth, you raised Lazarus
and revealed that you are the true resurrection and the life.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Job
Job 42: 1-17
Then Job answered the LORD and said: I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be hindered. I have dealt with great things that I do not understand; things too wonderful for me, which I cannot know. I had heard of you by word of mouth, but now my eye has seen you. Therefore I disown what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes.

And it came to pass after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, that the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “I am angry with you and with your two friends; for you have not spoken rightly concerning me, as has my servant Job. Now, therefore, take seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up a holocaust for yourselves; and let my servant Job pray for you; for his prayer I will accept, not to punish you severely. For you have not spoken rightly concerning me, as has my servant Job.”
Then Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, went and did as the LORD had commanded them. And the LORD accepted the intercession of Job. Also, the LORD restored the prosperity of Job, after he had prayed for his friends; the LORD even gave to Job twice as much as he had before. Then all his brethren and his sisters came to him, and all his former acquaintances, and they dined with him in his house. They condoled with him and comforted him for all the evil which the LORD had brought upon him; and each one gave him a piece of money and a gold ring. Thus the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his earlier ones. For he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-asses.
And he had seven sons and three daughters, of whom he called the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch. In all the land no other women were as beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brethren. After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; and he saw his children, his grandchildren, and even his great-grandchildren. Then Job died, old and full of years.

O God,
you are before all ages and exist from age to age;
you are resplendent and glorified in unsearchable light; through your word, you bring forth light and give us a new day.
O radiant Day and source of all light,
we glorify you, adore you and offer you praise night and day; accept our praise and answer our prayer.
Send us your abundant blessings, through the mercy of your Christ.
To him, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be glory, honor and power,
