TUESDAY OF PASSION WEEK Ramsho (Monday Evening)
TUESDAY OF PASSION WEEK Ramsho
INTRODUCTION
DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
O Lamb with out blemish,
you allowed yourself to be led to the cross
as the gentle lamb is led to the slaughter.
May we share in your sufferings and your resurrection and give you glory, for ever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.
PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
you are the Lamb slaughtered in place of all humanity.
With your blood the covenant between God and
humanity was sealed.
May we share in your sacrifice and be bathed in your blood, in order to receive your purification and your life.
We shall than be worthy to be raised to life with you and glorify you, for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
For behold, they lie in wait for my life:
not for any offense or sin of mine.
Psalm 59
Rescue me from my enemies, O my God;
from my adversaries defend me.
Rescue me from evildoers;
from bloodthirsty men save me.
For behold, they lie in wait for my life;
mighty men come together against me.
Not for any offense or sin of mine, O Lord;
for no guilt of mine they hurry to take up arms.
Rouse yourself to see it, and aid me,
for you are the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel.
Arise; punish all the nations;
have no pity on any worthless traitors.
Each evening they return, they snarl like dogs
and prowl about the city.
Though they bay with their mouths,
and blasphemies are on their lips—
“Who is there to listen?”
You, O Lord, laugh at them’
you deride all the nations.
O my strength! for you I watch;
for you, O God, are my stronghold,
my gracious God!
May God come to my aid;
may he show me the fall of my foes.
O God, slay them, lest they beguile my people;
shake them by your power, and bring them down,
O Lord, our shield!
By the sin of their mouths and the word of theirs lips
let them be caught in their arrogance,
for the lies they have told under oath.
Consume them in wrath; consume, till they are no more;
that men may know that God is the ruler of Jacob,
yes, to the ends of the earth.
Each evening they return, they snarl like dogs
and prowl about the city.
They wander about as scavengers;
if they are not filled, they howl.
But I will sing of your strength
and revel at dawn in your kindness;
You have been my stronghold,
my refuge in the day of distress.
O my strength! your praise will I sing;
for you, O God, are my stronghold,
my gracious God!
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon:
For behold, they lie in wait for my life:
not for any offense or sin of mine.
HYMN
All you people,
venerate your King and be full of respect for him.
Be gentle when you remove his crown.,
Because of your disobedience he has become motionless.
Grieve and cry for yourselves, for it is you who deserve the tears.
Stand, but bow your head; it is because of your pride that he has suffered.
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ our Lord,
we ask you to implant your passion in our hearts.
May we obtain the grace of repentance for our sins,
the hope of salvation,
and steadfastness in your love.
We shall praise and glorify you,
now and for ever. Amen.
EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141: 1-4
O LORD, to you I call; hasten to me;
hearken to my voice when I call upon you;
Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.
O LORD, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.
Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness
With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.
Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the LORD;
with a loud voice I beseech the LORD.
My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.
When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.
In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.
I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.
I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.
I cry out to you, O LORD:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land
of the living.”
Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.
The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.
Psalm 119: 105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.
I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.
I am very much afflicted;
O LORD, give me life according to your word.
Accept, O LORD, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.
Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.
Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.
I intend in my heart to fulfill your statutes
always to the letter.
Psalm 117
Praise the LORD, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
[SOOGHITO/HYMN]
O Lord, we have battled in your arena to the point of exhaustion.
We have borne the day of combat and the heat of ordeal.
In the service of your covenant, we have kept watch
during the night, confident in the fulfillment of your promise, We have made use of our talents with no concern for the pain.
On the Day of reckoning, when all will be laid before your throne of judgment, in your kindness, do not forget
what we have endured.
We belong to the Church, to which you have entrusted the treasure of hope;
Do not shame us as lazy servants or strangers,
but open your door for us that we may enter into the
dwelling of your chosen ones.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory, and honor to the good Pastor
who went to seek the lost sheep and saved his flock
with his own blood.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this evening,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.
SEDRO
O Christ our Lord,
glory be to your name for the sufferings you endured.
Both morning and evening you went to the Temple to
enlighten darkened and veiled eyes.
Instead, you met only faces reflecting hate and evil; you heard only rancor and derision.
You then knew clearly that the people had a
frightful intention
and that death was in store for you within a few days.
On the horizon you could see the cross planted on the summit of Golgotha,
dominating the four points of the compass.
In spite of this, you continued on your way to this terrible end.
You hastened as if to fulfill a vow dear to your heart, accomplishing all of this out of obedience to the Father and love for humanity.
We now recall your passion with sorrow
and beseech you for the pardon of our sins.
We know that they are the source of our unhappiness and your sufferings;
we know that they were and are the cause of our difficulties and your death.
Therefore, we are sorry for them
and return to you who seeks the lost sheep
and welcomes the prodigal son to the house of his Father.
Praise to you, Creator, Redeemer, Savior and Pastor,
now and for ever. Amen.
QOLO
The Good Shepherd returns to the fold with the lost sheep.
Blessed is Christ our Shepherd and Redeemer.
The cost of salvation was precious blood shed on a cross and a frightful death between two evildoers.
Blessed is Christ our Savior.
ETRO
O Christ,
with the perfume of our incense (our prayers)
we recall your passion,
beseech forgiveness of our sins,
and hope in your salvation.
May our lives be holy in order to be worthy of the
heavenly kingdom
where we shall praise you, with your Father, and your Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
In the desert he satisfied thousands with bread;
in the world today he satisfies millions with the bread of his body.
For this, they give him vinegar instead of wine to quench his thirst.
Our Lord said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Blessed is the One who gave not his money, but his blood, which was shed to the last drop.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Prophet Isaiah
Isaiah 5: 1-7
Let me now sing of my friend, my friend’s song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside; He spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; Within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes. Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard: What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? Now, I will let you know what I mean to do to my vineyard:
Take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled! Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it. The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his cherished plant; He looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry!
A Reading from the Letter of Jude
Jude 1-11
Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept safe for Jesus Christ: may mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance. Beloved, although I was making every effort to write to you about our common salvation, I now feel a need to write to encourage you to contend for the faith that was once for all handed down to the holy ones. For there have been some intruders, who long ago were designated for this condemnation, godless persons, who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and who deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. I wish to remind you, although you know all things, that the Lord who once saved a people from the land of Egypt later destroyed those who did not believe. The angels too, who did not keep to their own domain but deserted their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains, in gloom, for the judgment of the great day. Likewise, Sodom, Gomorrah, and the surrounding towns, which, in the same manner as they, indulged in sexual promiscuity and practiced unnatural vice, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. Similarly, these dreamers nevertheless also defile the flesh, scorn lordship, and revile glorious beings. Yet the archangel Michael, when he argued with the devil in a dispute over the body of Moses, did not venture to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him but said, “May the Lord rebuke you!” But these people revile what they do not understand and are destroyed by what they know by nature like irrational animals. Woe to them! They followed the way of Cain, abandoned themselves to Balaam’s error for the sake of gain, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
A Reading from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 22:1-53)
Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people.
Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.
Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. So Jesus[a] sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters and tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.” And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it[b] until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.[c] But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.
A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves.
“You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you,[d] that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Peter[e] said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” Jesus[f] said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”
And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.” And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”
And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. And when he came to the place, he said to them,“Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.[g] And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” And one of them struck the servant[h] of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
EPHREMIAT
O Pilate, in condemning the just One you judged unjustly; you handed over to the lashes him who had not sinned
and abandoned him to the impious.
He suffered injustice and was beaten with anger and hatred.
O great shame! His blood was shed and his bones could be counted.
In the one act of whipping Jesus, two judgements take place: a just judgment coming from the Father to ransom humanity; and an unjust judgment coming from Pilate to satisfy the revolting and passionate crowd.
Who will go to see my Mother and tell her of my state?
Who will console her pain with kind words?
Mother, you are not able to understand.
That is not yet all of my humiliation, but I am ready to die on the cross in order to ransom humanity.
My Child, who is able to understand what I feel in my broken heart?
Oh, how the mobs oppress me like a victorious army.
I lack resignation and my tears flow because the light is becoming distant.
My innocent Beloved received the blows from the whip
like a criminal.
HOOTOMO
Let us confess, adore, and praise the holy and glorious Trinity: Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit.

enlighten us with the knowledge of your truth.
And so, through all the days of our lives,
we shall praise you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Amen.
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us this day which has passed in calm and peace.

for we call upon you, O Lord, our God, our constant hope, glory to you for ever.
O Lord, our Lord,
may our humble worship be pleasing to you;
may our prayers come before you and our actions give
you honor.
Let your mercy, kindness, help, grace and divine love be poured abundantly upon us poor sinners,
both in heaven and on the earth
which you have created in your goodness.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.
DISMISSAL
Peace be with you.
And also with you.
O God,
through the prayers of your Mother and the saints who have believed in you;
through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors;
through the prayers of the just, the priests, the holy fathers, the pastors and doctors of true faith;
through the prayers of N., Pope of Rome, N., our Patriarch, and N., our Bishop,
forgive your people and have mercy on your flock.
May God bless, forgive, sanctify, purify, and keep each of the faithful united with us in this spiritual office.
May mercy and compassion be upon us and all the faithful who dwell here.
May peaceful rest be granted to those who have died in the faith.
May the faithful who live here experience the protection of his victorious cross.
May we and all his servants who adore him with bowed head, receive the mercy of the holy and glorious Trinity:
Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit,
to whom be glory now and for ever.
Amen.
May God forgive your sins,
pardon your failings,
and deliver you from the power of the enemy.
May he grant you the remission of your offenses.
Go in peace, and pray to Christ for me.
