O Christ,
may we always glorify your resurrection,

Lord, have mercy on us and save us.

Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
illumine us with your light in this life,
for you have delivered us from the shadows of death,
that we might become the children of light.
May we walk in the light of your path
that we may act in the light of your grace.
May we go forward to the light of your resurrection
and one day reach the light of your glory,
contemplating you, face to face, in an indescribable bliss of happiness.

EVENING PSALMS

O LORD, to you I call; hasten to me;

Praise, glory and honor to the Light who has shown himself to all nations.
He has shone on those who were in darkness
and gave joy to those who inhabited the darkness of death.

O Lord,
enlighten us with your light which illumines all who come into this world.
It shines in the darkness and darkness was not able to overcome it.
It is the light which fell upon the two angels at the entrance of your tomb.
In this light the holy women and the apostles
saw the open tomb, the folded shroud, and believed.
In this same light Thomas looked at the scars of the wounds in your hands, feet, and side and believed.
In it all those who believed look upon you,
without having seen what Thomas saw.
Grant your light, O Lord, to sinners that they may live in hope, and to the blind that they may see.
Spread your light throughout the world as a sign, a symbol, a beacon and a means of salvation,
so that your peace may reign in the world,
your cross be raised over it,
the world may renew itself by the hope of your resurrection, all powers bow down before you,
all tongues proclaim your name,
and everything that has life praise you,

QOLO
Today all the apostles believed in the resurrection of the Lord but Thomas was absent.
The following Sunday Thomas believed and exclaimed:
“My Lord and my God!”

The faith of the Church rests upon the faith of the apostles: it proclaims your resurrection to the ends of the earth.

O Lord,
we adore you, who came down from heaven,
assumed our humanity,

died on the wood of the cross for our redemption,
descended from the cross to the tomb,
and came out of it to bring life, life for us.
On this evening of the first Sunday of your resurrection grant us the faith of the holy women, but not their fright, the faith of the apostles, but not their fear,
the  of Thomas, but not his hesitation,
that our faith may be proclaimed by our deeds,
and our deeds lead us to life in your kingdom.
We shall praise you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

SYNAXARION
New Sunday is the eight day of the Church’s celebration of the resurrection. The first week of the Season of Resurrection, the Week of Hawareyeen, has come to a conclusion.
During this week we have seen the various appearances of the Lord: to Mary Magdalene, the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, to Peter, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and the disciples gathered in the upper room. Now the appearances of the Lord are over. In overcoming the hesitation of Thomas, the Lord revealed to the apostles the truth of the resurrection. Christ has risen, truly risen!
New Sunday once and for all puts an end to the old way of looking at the Lord. He is no longer revealed in the flesh (as the disciples experienced him during his life with them); nor in glory (as Thomas did). From now on, he is revealed in Spirit, through the experience of faith and in the Mysteries (sacraments). Only in the Spirit is there a sharing in his mystery of redemption. His word is crystal clear and resounds for all ages and generations.

“You have become a believer,
because you saw me.
Blessed are they who have not
seen and have believed.”

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Prophet Ezekiel
Ezekiel 34: 11-16
For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so will I tend my sheep.
I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. I will lead them out from among the peoples and gather them from the foreign lands; I will bring them back to their own country and pasture them upon the mountains of Israel in the land’s ravines and all its inhabited places. In good pastures will I pasture them, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing ground. There they shall lie down on good grazing ground, and in rich pastures shall they be pastured on the mountains of Israel. I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal but the sleek and the strong I will destroy, shepherding them rightly.
A Reading from the First Letter of Peter
1 Peter 4: 1-11
Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same attitude for whoever suffers in the flesh has broken with sin, so as not to spend what remains of one’s life in the flesh on human desires, but on the will of God. For the time that has passed is sufficient for doing what the Gentiles like to do: living in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and wanton idolatry. They are surprised that you do not plunge into the same swamp of profligacy, and they vilify you; but they will give an account to him who stands ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is why the gospel was preached even to the dead that, though condemned in the flesh in human estimation, they might live in the spirit in the estimation of God. The end of all things is at hand. Therefore, be serious and sober for prayers.
Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace. Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

SUPPLICATION
O Son, by your resurrection you saved the Church from error; hear our supplications and have mercy on us.
You reconciled heaven and earth, grant peace to your Church and keep her children in the light of the cross.
The Son has reconciled us, the peace of God has descended on us. May your peace, O Lord, descend upon us so that through it we may come to you. Glory to you, splendor of the Father; thanksgiving to you, Savior of the world and resurrection of those who rest; praise to you, Word of the Father through whom he told us all things.
Here are my hands, feet and heart, Thomas; put in your finger and believe. Come touch my wounds; see the scars of the whiplashes. Thomas’ doubt vanishes; believing, he prostrates himself. Blessed is he who shares the faith of the apostles without doubt.
Go throughout the land and proclaim that Christ is raised from the dead; proclaim what you saw with your eyes, heard with your ears and believed to the very depths of your soul. Be then witnesses to his resurrection and proclaim his word.
Brothers and sisters, believe in the resurrection of the Savior; I saw the nail marks, the wound made by the spears and that of the whiplashes; believe and do not doubt.
Let us remember the prophets, apostles and martyrs, all those who have labored and suffered in the vineyard of the Lord: Saint James, Saint Maron and his companions, and Saint Ephrem, Harp of the Holy Spirit. O God, through their prayers strengthen the weak, comfort the sick, grant pardon to the deceased and forgive the faults of us poor sinners.
Exalt, O Lord, the memory of your Mother and your saints; through their prayers grant pardon to our deceased. Through the prayers of your Mother, the prophets, apostles and martyrs, watch over the living, and in your mercy forgive those who have died.
