Friday Morning

FRIDAY Safro

INTRODUCTION

DOXOLOGY

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.

OPENING PRAYER
O Lord,
allow us to share the joy of the apostles and holy women on this glorious morning when they carried the good news.
Today, let their joy be ours, for in spite of two thousand years this event which we commemorate is always present.
Praise to you living in the glory of the Father and the Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS

Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
may we understand the meaning of your resurrection
so that we may not see in it a purely historical event or only a foundation of our faith,
but a life which we must realize in ourselves every day, a hope which we must draw each moment from our faith, so that our souls may become just by your life,
and our hope may be united to your hope,
and in your kingdom we shall glorify you face to face.
Both here and there we shall praise you with a ceaseless love, for ever. Amen.

PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
Not to us, O LORD, not to us
but to your name give glory.

Psalm 115
Not to us, O LORD, not to us
but to your name give glory
because of your kindness, because of your truth.

Why should the pagans say,
“Where is their God?”

Our God is in heaven;
whatever he wills, he does.

Their idols are silver and gold,
the handiwork of men.

They have mouths but speak not;
they have eyes but see not;

The have ears but hear not;
they have noses but smell not;

They have hands but feel not;
they have feet but walk not;
they utter no sound from their throat.

Their makers shall be like them,
everyone that trusts in them.

The house of Israel trusts in the LORD;
he is their help and their shield.

The house of Aaron trusts in the LORD;
he is their help and their shield.

Those who fear the LORD trust in the LORD;
he is their help and their shield.

The LORD remembers us and will bless us;
he will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron;

He will bless those who fear the LORD,
both the small and the great.

May the LORD bless you more and more,
both you and your children.

May you be blessed by the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.

Heaven is the heaven of the LORD,
but the earth he has given to the children of men.

It is not the dead who praise the LORD,
nor those who go down into silence;

But we bless the LORD,
both now and for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon:
Not to us, O LORD, not to us
but to your name give glory.

NUHRO (HYMN OF LIGHT)
The Light of the just and joy of the upright is Christ Jesus, our Lord,
Begotten of the Father, he manifested himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.

Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away.
From the true Light there arises for us the light which illumines our darkened eyes.

His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.

Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.

He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.

Our King comes in majestic glory,
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.

Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to the almighty Father, who,
in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with hope and salvation.

When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.

The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the glory of the just and upright people of the earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.
Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
you followed the way of Golgotha to find the lost sheep.
For it you endured terrible sufferings, and tasted the death of the cross.
You thus allowed the sheep to stay at your side in the light of glory.
We are the lost sheep which you have found again after a long period of wandering.
Grant us to live with you according to the new man,
the one you have snatched alive from the tomb,
and to whom you have promised eternal life.
Then, when we stand before you on the day of judgment, we shall enter into the fold of which you are the gate, and join the sheep of which you are the Shepherd,
praising you for ever. Amen.

MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.

Praise the LORD from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;

Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.

Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.

Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.

Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for he commanded and they were created;

He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.

Praise the LORD from the earth;
you sea monsters and all depths;

Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;

You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;

You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.

Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,

Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,

Praise the name of the LORD,
for his name alone is exalted;

His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.

Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.

Alleluia.

Psalm 149: 1-6
Alleluia.

Sing to the LORD a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.

Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.

Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.

For the LORD loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.

Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy upon their couches;

Let the high praises of God be in their throats.

Alleluia.

Psalm 150
Alleluia.

Praise the LORD in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.

Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.

Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.

Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.

Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.

Let everything that has breath
praise the LORD!

Alleluia.

Psalm 117

Praise the LORD, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, honor and glory to the Word in whom there is life.
In may ways he poured it over us:
the day he created us in his image in paradise
and on the day when he made of us new creatures on Golgotha.

To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.

SEDRO
O Lord,
how marvelous are your works;
you made them all with power and wisdom!
On the first Friday of time, you created man in your image.
You allowed him to enjoy your creation
and took pride in the fact that he was your friend.
You walked with him in the paths of paradise, in the breeze of the evening.
On another Friday you were nailed to a cross between two thieves,
redeeming us by your blood.
On this Friday, the Church celebrates your resurrection, for you shook off the dust of the grave,
adorned yourself with the light of glory,
and became the First-born of those who rest in peace.
Glory to you, O Word, by whom all things were made.
On the first Friday you created man in paradise,
on the second you made of him a new creature by your death and resurrection.
We glorify and praise you, O Creator and Redeemer, for what you have done,
now and for ever. Amen.

QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you rose from the tomb with glory and power.

Holy are you, O Strong One, First-born of those who sleep and a pledge of life.

Holy are you, O Immortal One, you overcame death and raised from death those who were dead.

The Church and her children sing your praise. Glory and praise to you who gives life to us.

ETRO
O Lord,
accept the perfume of our supplications
as your accepted the sacrifice of the just and upright.
Through them grant us pardon of sins and remission of faults,
so that we may walk in your way as new creatures,
and praise you, with your Father and your Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.

READINGS
MAZMOORO
He became obedient unto death on a cross. For this reason, God has exalted him, and gave him a name which is above any other name.

Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all creatures.

At the name of Jesus, every power kneels in heaven above, on earth, and under the earth. To him be glory, for ever.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 19; 21-40
When this was concluded, Paul made up his mind to travel through Macedonia and Achaia, and then to go on to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must visit Rome also.” Then he sent to Macedonia two of his assistants, Timothy and Erastus, while he himself stayed for a while in the province of Asia. About that time a serious disturbance broke out concerning the Way. There was a silversmith named Demetrius who made miniature silver shrines of Artemis and provided no little work for the craftsmen. He called a meeting of these and other workers in related crafts and said,
“Men, you know well that our prosperity derives from this work. As you can now see and hear, not only in Ephesus but throughout most of the province of Asia this Paul has persuaded and misled a great number of people by saying that gods made by hands are not gods at all. The danger grows, not only that our business will be discredited, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be of no account, and that she whom the whole province of Asia and all the world worship will be stripped of her magnificence.”

When they heard this, they were filled with fury and began to shout, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” The city was filled with confusion, and the people rushed with one accord into the theater, seizing Gaius and Aristarchus, the Macedonians, Paul’s traveling companions. Paul wanted to go before the crowd, but the disciples would not let him, and even some of the Asiarchs who were friends of his sent word to him advising him not to venture into the theater. Meanwhile, some were shouting one thing, others something else; the assembly was in chaos, and most of the people had no idea why they had come together. Some of the crowd prompted Alexander, as the Jews pushed him forward, and Alexander signaled with his hand that he wished to explain something to the gathering.
But when they recognized that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison, for about two hours, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” Finally the town clerk restrained the crowd and said, “You Ephesians, what person is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image that fell from the sky? Since these things are undeniable, you must calm yourselves and not do anything rash. The men you brought here are not temple robbers, nor have they insulted our goddess. If Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a complaint against anyone, courts are in session, and there are proconsuls. Let them bring charges against one another. If you have anything further to investigate, let the matter be settled in the lawful assembly, for, as it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of today’s conduct. There is no cause for it. We shall [not] be able to give a reason for this demonstration.” With these words he dismissed the assembly.
