6th Sunday of Resurrection
SIXTH SUNDAY OF RESURRECTION Ramsho
INTRODUCTION
DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
O Christ,
may we always glorify your resurrection,
especially on this day,
with chaste hearts, clear consciences and good deeds, so that we can sincerely proclaim it throughout the
world.
May we live enlightened by it
and die in the hope of our own resurrection.
Then shall we praise you in your heavenly kingdom,
for ever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.
PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
by your resurrection you have filled our hearts with
gladness
and have restored joy to our lives.
Your resurrection became again what God desired in the beginning;
a path towards him, participation in his life, a
breath of his love,
and a hope to be fulfilled in the kingdom of heaven,
where we shall praise you, with your Father, and your Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
I shall not die, but live,
and declare the works of the Lord.
Psalm 118
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his mercy endures forever.
Let the house of Israel say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
In my straits I called upon the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is with me; I fear not;
what can man do against me?
The Lord is with me to help me,
and I shall look down upon my foes.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
All the nations encompassed me;
in the name of the Lord I crushed them.
They encompassed me on every side;
in the name of the Lord I crushed them.
They encompassed me like bees,
they flared up like fire among thorns;
in the name of the Lord I crushed them.
I was hard pressed and was falling,
but the Lord helped me.
My strength and my courage is the Lord,
and he has been my savior.
The joyful shout of victory in the tents of the just:
“The right hand of the Lord has struck with power:
the right hand of the Lord is exalted;
the right hand of the Lord has struck with power.”
I shall not die, but live,
and declare the works of the Lord.
Though the Lord has indeed chastised me,
yet he has not delivered me to death.
Open to me the gates of justice;
I will enter them and give thanks to the Lord.
This gate is the Lord’s:
the just shall enter it.
I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me
and have been my savior.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
By the Lord has this been done;
it is wonderful in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it.
O Lord, grant salvation!
O Lord, grant prosperity!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord;
we bless you from the house of the Lord.
The Lord is God,
and he has given us light.
Join in procession with leafy boughs
up to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I give thanks to you;
O my God, I extol you.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good:
for his kindness endures forever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon:
I shall not die, but live,
and declare the works of the Lord.
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
illumine us with your light in this life,
for you have delivered us from the shadows of death,
that we might become the children of light.
May we walk in the light of your path
that we may act in the light of your grace.
May we go forward to the light of your resurrection
and one day reach the light of your glory,
contemplating you, face to face, in an indescribable
bliss of happiness.
We shall praise you, your Father and your Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.
EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141: 1-4
O LORD, to you I call; hasten to me;
hearken to my voice when I call upon you;
Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.
O LORD, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.
Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness
With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.
Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the LORD;
with a loud voice I beseech the LORD.
My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.
When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.
In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.
I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.
I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.
I cry out to you, O LORD:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.
The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.
Psalm 119: 105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.
I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.
I am very much afflicted;
O LORD, give me life according to your word.
Accept, O LORD, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.
Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.
Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.
I intend in my heart to fulfill your statutes
always to the letter.
Psalm 117
Praise the LORD, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
[SOOGHITO/HYMN]
A Sooghito or the Hymn, “The Resurrection of Christ”
(page 289) may be sung following the Evening Psalms.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the incarnate Word,
after his death and resurrection he ascended to heaven,
seated himself at the right hand of the Father
and received the crown of glory and honor.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this evening,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.
SEDRO
O Christ,
all the works of the economy derive from your love for us; for us you descended to earth from the heavens to live with us as a man, the Son of Man,
and all your life you worked for our salvation.
You walked with us on your path,
the only one that leads to the Father,
then you died for us on the wood of the cross,
to redeem us from our sins
and to wash us by sprinkling us with your blood,
to purify us by the bath of water and the Word of life, and to extend to us the abundance of your gifts and benefits.
Likewise, for us you rose from the dead,
in order to make of us a new creation in the image of your resurrection.
Finally, for us you ascended to heaven
to prepare a place for us.
The Father glorified you with the glory that you had with him before the beginning of the world,
and he gave you power over the works of your hands and put everything under your feet.
After having made your one and only sacrifice for sins, you sat at the right hand of God for ever.
Grant that we may recognize your love which surpasses all understanding
so that we may be filled with all the fullness of God and confess that you are in the glory of God the Father.
Then shall we desire that which is above, where you are seated at the right hand of God,
so that at the time of your second appearance
we may be with you in glory,
and praise you, with your Father, and your Holy Spirit, for ever. Amen.
QOLO
Today all the apostles believed in the resurrection of the Lord, but Thomas was absent.
The following Sunday Thomas believed and exclaimed:
“My Lord and my God!”
The faith of the Church rests upon the faith of the apostles: it proclaims your resurrection to the ends of the earth.
ETRO
O Lord,
we adore you, who came down from heaven,
assumed our humanity,
died on the wood of the cross for our redemption,
descended from the cross to the tomb,
and came out of it to bring life, life for us.
On this evening of the sixth Sunday of your resurrection grant us the faith of the holy women, but not their fright, the faith of the apostles, but not their fear,
the faith of Thomas, but not his hesitation,
that our faith may be proclaimed by our deeds,
and our deeds lead us to life in your kingdom.
We shall praise you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
If I do not see the marks of the nails in his hands and feet, the place of the spear in his side, I shall not believe.
Place your finger here, Thomas; see my hands and feet and put your hand in my side.
My Lord and my God! May the heavens and earth, the angels and mankind, all mouths glorify you for ever.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 30: 2-9
Why, I am the most stupid of men, and have not even human intelligence; Neither have I learned wisdom, nor have I the knowledge of the Holy One. Who has gone up to heaven and come down again — who has cupped the wind in his hands? Who has bound up the waters in a cloak — who has marked out all the ends of the earth? What is his name, what is his son’s name, if you know it?” Every word of God is tested; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Add nothing to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be exposed as a deceiver. Two things I ask of you, deny them not to me before I die: Put falsehood and lying far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; provide me only with the food I need; Lest, being full, I deny you, saying, “Who is the LORD?” Or, being in want, I steal, and profane the name of my God.
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 24: 10-27
Then the governor motioned to him to speak and Paul replied, “I know that you have been a judge over this nation for many years and so I am pleased to make my defense before you. As you can verify, not more than twelve days have passed since I went up to Jerusalem to worship. Neither in the temple, nor in the synagogues, nor anywhere in the city did they find me arguing with anyone or instigating a riot among the people. Nor can they prove to you the accusations they are now making against me. But this I do admit to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our ancestors and I believe everything that is in accordance with the law and written in the prophets. I have the same hope in God as they themselves have that there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous. Because of this, I always strive to keep my conscience clear before God and man. After many years, I came to bring alms for my nation and offerings. While I was so engaged, they found me, after my purification, in the temple without a crowd or disturbance. But some Jews from the province of Asia, who should be here before you to make whatever accusation they might have against me — or let these men themselves state what crime they discovered when I stood before the Sanhedrin, unless it was my one outcry as I stood among them, that ‘I am on trial before you today for the resurrection of the dead.’ ” Then Felix, who was accurately informed about the Way, postponed the trial, saying, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I shall decide your case.” He gave orders to the centurion that he should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that he should not prevent any of his friends from caring for his needs. Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He had Paul summoned and listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. But as he spoke about righteousness and self-restraint and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “You may go for now; when I find an opportunity I shall summon you again.” At the same time he hoped that a bribe would be offered him by Paul, and so he sent for him very often and conversed with him. Two years passed and Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Wishing to ingratiate himself with the Jews, Felix left Paul in prison.
SUPPLICATION
O Son, by your resurrection you saved the Church from error; hear our supplications and have mercy on us.
You reconciled heaven and earth, grant peace to your Church and keep her children in the light of the cross.
The Son has reconciled us, the peace of God has descended on us. May your peace, O Lord, descend upon us so that through it we may come to you. Glory to you, splendor of the Father; thanksgiving to you, Savior of the world and resurrection of those who rest; praise to you, Word of the Father through whom he told us all things.
Here are my hands, feet and heart, Thomas; put in your finger and believe. Come touch my wounds; see the scars of the whiplashes. Thomas’ doubt vanishes; believing, he prostrates himself. Blessed is he who shares the faith of the apostles without doubt.
Go throughout the land and proclaim that Christ is raised from the dead; proclaim what you saw with your eyes, heard with your ears and believed to the very depths of your soul. Be then witnesses to his resurrection and proclaim his word.
Brothers and sisters, believe in the resurrection of the Savior; I saw the nail marks, the wound made by the spears and that of the whiplashes; believe and do not doubt.
Let us remember the prophets, apostles and martyrs, all those who have labored and suffered in the vineyard of the Lord: Saint James, Saint Maron and his companions, and Saint Ephrem, Harp of the Holy Spirit. O God, through their prayers strengthen the weak, comfort the sick, grant pardon to the deceased and forgive the faults of us poor sinners.
Exalt, O Lord, the memory of your Mother and your saints; through their prayers grant pardon to our deceased. Through the prayers of your Mother, the prophets, apostles and martyrs, watch over the living, and in your mercy forgive those who have died.
HOOTOMO
Let us confess, adore, and praise the holy and glorious Trinity: Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit.
TRISAGION
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Holy are you, O God;
Holy are you, O Strong One;
Holy are you, O Immortal One;
have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us.
Lord, hear us and have mercy on us.
Lord, accept our worship and our prayers.
Lord, come to our assistance and have mercy on us.
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who are in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
O Lord
the night and the day are yours;
you uphold the light and the sun.
Through your power you direct the sequence of the seasons.
O Lord,
you have brought the day to its close and called forth the night.
Be for us that great Day that never ends.
In the evening let your light shine in our hearts,
and in the darkness of the night,
enlighten us with the knowledge of your truth.
And so, through all the days of our lives,
we shall praise you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Amen.
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us this day which has passed in calm and peace.
Let us recall our failings against the commandments of God and the Church in thought, word, deed, or omission.
We ask for God’s pardon as we pray.
“Forgive us, Jesus!”
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
God,
Father in heaven,
by your living and holy name,
keep us from evil and lead us not into temptation:
for we call upon you, O Lord, our God, our constant hope, glory to you for ever.
O Lord, our Lord,
may our humble worship be pleasing to you;
may our prayers come before you and our actions give
you honor.
Let your mercy, kindness, help, grace and divine love be poured abundantly upon us poor sinners,
both in heaven and on the earth
which you have created in your goodness.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.
DISMISSAL
Peace be with you.
And also with you.
O God,
through the prayers of your Mother and the saints who have believed in you;
through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors;
through the prayers of the just, the priests, the holy fathers, the pastors and doctors of true faith;
through the prayers of N., Pope of Rome, N., our Patriarch, and N., our Bishop,
forgive your people and have mercy on your flock.
May God bless, forgive, sanctify, purify, and keep each of the faithful united with us in this spiritual office.
May mercy and compassion be upon us and all the faithful who dwell here.
May peaceful rest be granted to those who have died in the faith.
May the faithful who live here experience the protection of his victorious cross.
May we and all his servants who adore him with bowed head, receive the mercy of the holy and glorious Trinity:
Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit,
to whom be glory now and for ever.
Amen.
May God forgive your sins,
pardon your failings,
and deliver you from the power of the enemy.
May he grant you the remission of your offenses.
Go in peace, and pray to Christ for me.
