Friday Evening

  • SATURDAY Ramsho

INTRODUCTION

DOXOLOGY

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.

OPENING PRAYER
O Christ,
on the preceding Saturday, you were in the tomb among the dead.
May we always praise your glorious resurrection.
Grant us the grace to believe firmly in it,
and in the hope of our future one.
We shall praise you,
now and for ever. Amen.

GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.

PRAISE OF THE ANGELS

Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY

FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
by your resurrection your cross has become one of
triumph and victory,
after having been a cross of infamy and death.
Following your example,
grant us to carry our cross according to your will.
Let it be transformed like your own,
so that after the trials of this world it will be for us a cause of glory in eternity.
We shall praise you in your kingdom, for ever. Amen.

PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
Praise the name of the LORD;
Praise, you servants of the LORD.

Psalm 135
Praise the name of the LORD;
Praise, you servants of the Lord.

Who stand in the house of the LORD,
in the courts of the house of our God.

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good;
sing praise to his name, which we love;

For the LORD has chosen Jacob for himself,
Israel for his own possession.

For I know that the LORD is great;
our LORD is greater than all gods.

All that the LORD wills he does
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and in all the deeps.

He raises storm clouds from the end of the earth;
with the lighting he makes the rain;
he brings forth the winds from his storehouse.

He smote the first-born in Egypt,
both of man and of beast.

He sent signs and wonders
into your midst, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and
against all his servants.

He smote many nations
and slew mighty kings:

Sihon, king of the Amorites,
and Og, king of Bashan,
and all the kings of Canaan;

And he made their land a heritage,
the heritage of Israel his people.

Your name, O LORD, endures forever;
LORD is your title through all generations,

For the LORD defends his people,
and is merciful to his servants.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the handiwork of men.

They have mouths but speak not;
they have eyes but see not;

They have ears but hear not;
nor is there breath in their mouths.

Their makers shall be like them,
everyone that trusts in them.

House of Israel, bless the LORD
house of Aaron, bless the LORD.

House of Levi, bless the LORD;
you who fear the LORD; bless the LORD.

Blessed from Zion be the LORD,
who dwells in Jerusalem.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon:
Praise the name of the LORD;
Praise, you servants of the LORD.

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
you are the gate of mercy by which the elect enter into the fold of the children,
and which breaks the assaults of the devouring wolves.
You allowed us to enter in through your death and
resurrection;
by your grace protect us
until the day when we shall enter your heavenly fold, where we shall praise you with the angels and saints, for ever. Amen.

EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141: 1-4
O LORD, to you I call; hasten to me;
hearken to my voice when I call upon you;

Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.

O LORD, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.

Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness

With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.

Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the LORD;
with a loud voice I beseech the LORD.

My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.

When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.

In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.

I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.

I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.

I cry out to you, O LORD:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land
of the living.”

Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.

Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.

Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.

The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.

Psalm 119: 105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.

I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.

I am very much afflicted;
O LORD, give me life according to your word.

Accept, O LORD, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.

Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.

Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.

I intend in my heart to fulfill your statutes
always to the letter.

Psalm 117

Praise the LORD, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, honor and glory to the Shepherd who made the
Church the fold of his sheep.
He placed within her shepherds and guardians like himself, and promised to be with her always as her Pastor.
He has gathered into her people of all nations and races.
To the Good One, is due glory and honor this evening, and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.

SEDRO
O Good Shepherd,
last Saturday you were in the silence of the grave.
The wolves had attacked your flock, and tore the sheep into pieces.
All hope was lost,
but, behold, you rose on the third day.
Being the gate of the sheepfold, you have gathered again, all the children of God,
scattered throughout the world.
Last Saturday, you rested in the tomb from which burst forth the life of a new creation.
This is the image of the rest of the first Saturday from which burst forth the life of the new creation.
On the third day, when you came forth from the tomb,
new life spread from your tomb, as the rays of the sun spread from the East to cover the world.
Gather us, Good Shepherd, into your holy Church, your sheep fold, and send us shepherds and pastors who will model their lives on yours,
and who lead us to graze in your Spirit.
Place in the hearts of young men and women your call to serve your house, spread your gospel and save the poor.
Call your people to care for the sick, feed those who are hungry, teach your children, and offer your spiritual worship, so that your kingdom may be perfected.
We shall praise and glorify you, for ever. Amen.

QOLO
The first Saturday was a day of rest after the creation of the world, and the second Saturday was a day of rest after the work of salvation.

Man corrupted the creation of the first Saturday, and Christ restored it by his death. From the second Saturday came the new redeemed world, with its new heaven and earth.

ETRO
O God,
accept the perfume of our prayer which we offer on the evening of this Saturday.
May the joy of resurrection fill our hearts as we recall your burial
which was the path you followed to reach the resurrection.
Teach us to lose ourselves, as you did,
in order to find ourselves and you.
We shall praise you in your kingdom, for ever. Amen.

READINGS
MAZMOORO
You are the First-born of those who sleep in death; you who rose from the dead and are the pledge of our own resurrection; glory be to you.

Praise the Lord, all you people, for he is the First-born of those who sleep; glorify him all you nations, for he is risen and made it possible for us to rise with him.

O God, you accepted the prayers of those who have gone before us, receive our prayers and have mercy on us.

SYNAXARION

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles
Acts 28: 1-16
Once we had reached safety we learned that the island was called Malta. The natives showed us extraordinary hospitality; they lit a fire and welcomed all of us because it had begun to rain and was cold. Paul had gathered a bundle of brushwood and was putting it on the fire when a viper, escaping from the heat, fastened on his hand. When the natives saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “This man must certainly be a murderer; though he escaped the sea, Justice has not let him remain alive.” But he shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no harm. They were expecting him to swell up or suddenly to fall down dead but, after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and began to say that he was a god. In the vicinity of that place were lands belonging to a man named Publius, the chief of the island. He welcomed us and received us cordially as his guests for three days. It so happened that the father of Publius was sick with a fever and dysentery. Paul visited him and, after praying, laid his hands on him and healed him. After this had taken place, the rest of the sick on the island came to Paul and were cured. They paid us great honor and when we eventually set sail they brought us the provisions we needed. Three months later we set sail on a ship that had wintered at the island. It was an Alexandrian ship with the Dioscuri as its figurehead. We put in at Syracuse and stayed there three days, and from there we sailed round the coast and arrived at Rhegium. After a day, a south wind came up and in two days we reached Puteoli. There we found some brothers and were urged to stay with them for seven days. And thus we came to Rome. The brothers from there heard about us and came as far as the Forum of Appius and Three Taverns to meet us. On seeing them, Paul gave thanks to God and took courage. When he entered Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him.

SUPPLICATION
O Son, by your resurrection you have saved the Church from error; hear our supplications and have mercy on us.

You reconciled heaven and earth, grant peace to your Church and keep her children in the light of the cross.

The Church is gathered, awaiting the return of the Master.
In her joy, she cries out: He is risen and has given us peace.
He has left us his peace; come and receive the peace of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Peace to you who have been saved; peace to you who are near or far; peace to the living and the dead. The peace of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be with you all.
The priests proclaim: Peace to you, sinners, for Christ has justified you; peace to the small and the great, to the just and sinners. The peace of God is a gift that flows from the resurrection of Christ.

Children of the holy Church, may the peace of God be with you and among you; may there never be differences or dissension among you. Through his resurrection, Christ grants peace to us all. May it dwell in our hearts and consciences.

The Virgin Mary, your Mother, and the apostles, prophets and martyrs intercede for us; O God through their prayers strengthen the weak, comfort the sick, grant pardon to the deceased, and forgive the faults of us poor sinners.

Exalt, O Lord, the memory of your Mother and your saints; through their prayers grant pardon to us and our deceased. Through the prayers of your Mother, the prophets, apostles and martyrs, watch over the living, and in your mercy, forgive those who have died.

HOOTOMO
Let us confess, adore, and praise the holy and glorious Trinity: Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit.

TRISAGION

Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Holy are you, O God;
Holy are you, O Strong One;
Holy are you, O Immortal One;
have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy on us.
Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us.
Lord, hear us and have mercy on us.
Lord, accept our worship and our prayers.
Lord, come to our assistance and have mercy on us.

LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who are in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

O Lord
the night and the day are yours;
you uphold the light and the sun.
Through your power you direct the sequence of the seasons.
O Lord,
you have brought the day to its close and called forth the night.
Be for us that great Day that never ends.
In the evening let your light shine in our hearts,
and in the darkness of the night,
enlighten us with the knowledge of your truth.
And so, through all the days of our lives,
we shall praise you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Amen.

EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us this day which has passed in calm and peace.
Let us recall our failings against the commandments of God and the Church in thought, word, deed, or omission.

We ask for God’s pardon as we pray.

“Forgive us, Jesus!”

Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.

God,
Father in heaven,
by your living and holy name,
keep us from evil and lead us not into temptation:
for we call upon you, O Lord, our God, our constant hope, glory to you for ever.

O Lord, our Lord,
may our humble worship be pleasing to you;
may our prayers come before you and our actions give
you honor.
Let your mercy, kindness, help, grace and divine love be poured abundantly upon us poor sinners,
both in heaven and on the earth
which you have created in your goodness.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.

DISMISSAL
Peace be with you.
And also with you.

O God,
through the prayers of your Mother and the saints who have believed in you;
through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors;
through the prayers of the just, the priests, the holy fathers, the pastors and doctors of true faith;
through the prayers of N., Pope of Rome, N., our Patriarch, and N., our Bishop,
forgive your people and have mercy on your flock.
May God bless, forgive, sanctify, purify, and keep each of the faithful united with us in this spiritual office.
May mercy and compassion be upon us and all the faithful who dwell here.
May peaceful rest be granted to those who have died in the faith.
May the faithful who live here experience the protection of his victorious cross.
May we and all his servants who adore him with bowed head, receive the mercy of the holy and glorious Trinity:
Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit,
to whom be glory now and for ever.
Amen.

May God forgive your sins,
pardon your failings,
and deliver you from the power of the enemy.
May he grant you the remission of your offenses.
Go in peace, and pray to Christ for me.
