Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
In your infinite goodness, O Lord,

Grant us to share with them in the inheritance of the saints.

God is the rock of my heart

Psalm 73
How good God is to the upright;
the Lord, to those who are clean of heart!

But, as for me, I almost lost my balance;
my feet all but slipped,

Because I was envious of the arrogant
when I saw them prosper though they were wicked.

For they are in no pain;
their bodies are sound and sleek;

They are free from the burdens of mortals,
and are not afflicted like the rest of men.

So pride adorns them as a necklace;
as a robe violence enwraps them.

Out of their crassness comes iniquity;
their fancies overflow their hearts.

They scoff and speak evil;
outrage from on high they threaten.

They set their mouthings in place of heaven,
and their pronouncements roam the earth:

“So he brings his people to such a pass
that they have not even water!”

And they say, “How does God know?”
And, “Is there any knowledge in the Most High?”

Such, then, are the wicked;

Is it but in vain I have kept my heart clean,
and washed my hands as an innocent man?

For I suffer affliction day after day
and chastisement with each new dawn.

Had I thought, “I will speak as they do,”
I had been false to the fellowship of your children.

Though I tried to understand this
it seemed to me too difficult,

Till I entered the sanctuary of God
and considered their final destiny.

You set them, indeed, on a slippery road;
you hurl them down to ruin.

How suddenly they are made desolate!
They are completely wasted away amid horrors.

As though they were the dream of one who had awakened,
O Lord, so will you, when you arise, set as nought these phantoms.

Because my heart was embittered
and my soul was pierced.

I was stupid and understood not;
I was like a brute beast in your presence.

Yet with you I shall always be;
you have hold of my right hand.

With your counsel you guide me,
and in the end you will receive me in glory.

Whom else have I in heaven?
And when I am with you, the earth delights me not.

But for me, to be near God is my good;

EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141:1-4
O Lord, to you I call; hasten to me;

O God, we implore you:

may behold your smiling face and rest in the

drawing from your immense and inexhaustible treasure,
we offer you this incense (prayer);

MAZMOORO
Now, as the sun goes down and night extends its dominion, Lord, may your mercy be upon us.
Now, as the sun gathers up its rays and darkness envelops the earth, O Son of God, may your compassion be upon us.
In your mercy, you accepted the offering of the righteous before us, accept now our praise and receive our prayer.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew
Matthew 13: 1-17
On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.” The disciples approached him and said, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” He said to them in reply, “Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because ‘they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.’ Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: ‘You shall indeed hear but not understand, you shall indeed look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people, they will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and be converted, and I heal them.’ “But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.
Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

SUPPLICATION
Son of God, grant eternal rest to your servants in the heavenly kingdom with your saints.
Son of God, whose voice calls forth the dead from the tomb,
hear our petitions and forgive your servants who have
departed from us.
On that great Dawn when all secrets will be judged and all hidden deeds revealed; when the trumpet will summon the dead
descendants of Adam and all will stand before the throne of
God;
When all the nations of the world will be in array before him, and each person, with no adornment save his deeds, will
stand before him;
At that moment, when justice will follow its course, be compassionate toward the people you have saved, O Son of God.
By your merciful power, give life to those you have
redeemed by your blood, and rescue from the darkness
those who have partaken of your body.
Glory to the Father, who has commanded the judgment of all
human beings; adoration to the Son, whose judgment is
perfect; thanksgiving to the Spirit, who rejects privilege and glory be to God!
O Christ who prayed that the cup of death might pass away from you, take away from us the cup of the second death, and
have mercy on us.

EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us
this day which has passed in calm and peace.
