Aug 15 Assumption of Mary

August 15
ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN
Ramsho
INTRODUCTION
DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
O God,
on the evening of this great feast,
may we praise and exalt you with the children of the one,
universal, holy, and apostolic Church.
We implore your mercy and goodness through the intercession
of the Mother of mercies;
in her body and soul she has reached the dwelling of the saints.
May we rejoice one day with her in heaven,
where we shall glorify you,
for ever. Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
peace on earth and good will to all.

Praise the Lord, all you nations,
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever,
and peace on earth and good will to all.

PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ our God and eternal Word,
you wished to be born of the Virgin Mary
to save us and to bring us back to yourself.
When your saving plan was accomplished,
you returned to your Father,
and then drew your Mother, who was full of grace, to yourself and seated her at your right hand.
O Lord,
grant us to honor her memory and to praise her feast,
for you have exalted her above men and angels.
To you is due glory and adoration,
now and for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon: The Queen takes her place
at your right hand.
Psalm 45
My heart overflows with a goodly theme;
as I sing my ode to the king,
my tongue is nimble as the pen of a skillful scribe.

Fairer in beauty are you than the sons of men;
grace is poured out upon your lips;
thus God has blessed you forever.

Gird your sword upon your thigh, O mighty one!
In you splendor and your majesty ride on triumphant.

In the cause of truth and for the sake of justice;
and may your right hand show you wondrous deeds.

Your arrows are sharp; peoples are subject to you;
the king’s enemies lose heart.

Your throne, O God, stands forever and ever,
a tempered rod is your royal scepter.

You love justice and hate wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness above your fellow kings.

With myrrh and aloes and cassia your robes are fragrant;
from ivory palaces string music brings you joy.

Hear, O daughter, and see; turn your ear,
forget your people and your father’s house.

So shall the king desire your beauty;
for he is your lord, and you must worship him.

And the city of Tyre is here with gifts;
the rich among the people seek your favor.

All glorious is the king’s daughter as she enters;
her raiment is threaded with spun gold.

In embroidered apparel she is borne in to the king;
behind her the virgins of her train are brought to you.

They are borne in with gladness and joy;
they enter the palace of the king.

The palace of your fathers your sons shall have;
you shall make them princes through all the land.

I will make your name memorable through all generations;
therefore shall nations praise you forever and ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.

Antiphon: The Queen takes her place
at your right hand.

SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O God,
may we extol you with hymns and praises this evening
as we commemorate the assumption of your holy Mother,

whom you have adorned with all beauty and virtue
and have made Queen of heaven and earth.
Through her prayers, O Lord, have mercy on us,
and through her intercession, sanctify us,
that one day we may obtain her state
and live with you, for ever. Amen.
EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141:1-4
O Lord, to you I call; hasten to me;
harken to my voice when I call upon you.

Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.

O Lord, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.

Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness

With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.

Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the Lord;
with a loud voice I beseech the Lord.

My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.

When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.

In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.

I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.

I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.

I cry out to you, O Lord:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land
of the living.”

Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.

Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.

Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.

The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.

Psalm 119:105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.

I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.

I am very much afflicted;
O Lord, give me life according to your word.

Accept, O Lord, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.

Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.

Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.

I intend in my heart to fulfill you statutes
always to the letter.

Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the hidden Father, who has sent his Son to be born of the Virgin;
to the Son, who chose his Mother from among all women,
and brought her to himself in body and soul;
to the Holy Spirit, who made of his pure and marvelous
betrothed.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this evening,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.
SEDRO
O Christ our God,
your love is incomprehensible and your majesty is indescribable.
You desired to become incarnate of the holy Virgin;
from her you were born.
She carried you in her arms, you who carry the universe;
she took you by the hand and guided you on the road of this life, you who are the Way, the Truth and the Life.
It pleased you to become like us in all things, but sin,
and you submitted yourself to grow as a man.
Your pure Mother bent over and kissed you
when you left your parent’s home to carry the good news of
salvation to all.
After your ascension and the sending of the Holy Spirit,
you desired to bring back to you the one who is blessed among all women,
your holy Mother and ours.

You sent your angels as a retinue from earth to heaven.
Now she is in heaven, body and soul, the Queen of the angelic principalities.
This is what the universal Church believes and proclaims by the mouth of her fathers, pontiffs and doctors;
this is what we believe and proclaim:
Mary, you have truly ascended into heaven, body and soul,
and are seated at the right hand of the Son,
as daughter of the Father and Spouse of the Holy Spirit.
You are the vessel which is our salvation,
the dove which announces peace,
the golden fleece upon which descended the heavenly dew.
You are filled with grace and have become the Mother of God.
And now we implore you, saying:
Go in peace, Daughter of the Father, Mother of the Son, Spouse of the Holy Spirit;
Go in peace, second Eve who gave justice to the world,
Blessed Mother whom the Savior has given to us;
Go in peace, pure and chaste one, the honor of men and the glory of the universe.
On this your feast we ask you to obtain for us the communion of the Holy Spirit
and the grace of the forgiveness of our sins.
May the Lord stretch forth his right hand over the whole world, may he root out the weeds of egotism and sow goodness and love.
May our prayers for the living and the dead be accepted
and may they be a pledge of meeting you in heaven where
we shall praise the glorious Trinity,
for ever. Amen.
QOLO
Today the angelic powers come down and transport the all blessed to heaven.
Today all the saints cry out: “Come in peace, O full of grace, sit at the right hand of the king.”
Today the apostles and disciples gather and hear the angels sing:
“Come, daughter of the holy One, enter into the kingdom.”
Today the Church rejoices on the memorial of the Blessed Virgin and sings: “May the prayer of the Virgin keep us as a rampart.”

ETRO
O Lord,
in your kindness accept our incense and our prayers
which we offer in memory of the assumption, body and soul,
of your holy Mother into heaven.
Grant your graces and blessings to your believing Church,
so that it may send forth your good news to all nations
and spread your name through out the earth.
We shall glorify you,
now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
The angels came down to bring the Virgin, body and soul, to heaven.
May we proclaim from the top of the mountains: the angels have come down from heaven; let them praise him who has brought the Virgin to himself, body and soul.
O God, you accepted the prayers of our ancestors, accept our
prayers and have mercy on us.
SYNAXARION
Ancient tradition tells us and our own faith assures us of what the Church has solemnly proclaimed: the Virgin Mary has entered, body and soul, into heaven. After her death the Virgin Mother of God, without undergoing corruption, has entered heaven, by a special privilege of God, with her body glorified as was her Son’s. As God had preserved her from the stain of original sin, made her a mother and yet preserved her as a virgin, so also has he brought her to himself in her integral human nature of body and soul. The origins of this feast are very ancient and date to a period some time before the sixth century. Although it has been an ancient tradition to venerate the bodies of the saints, there never has been any mention of there being any veneration of the body of the Virgin. This is an added witness to the truth of the bodily assumption of the Virgin Mary. This feast is celebrated in the Churches of both East and the West under a variety of titles. May our Virgin Mother intercede for us and may her prayers protect us. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Sirach
Sirach 24: 4-14
In the highest heavens did I dwell, my throne on a pillar of cloud. The vault of heaven I compassed alone, through the deep abyss I wandered. Over waves of the sea, over all the land, over every people and nation I held sway. Among all these I sought a resting place; in whose inheritance should I abide? “Then the Creator of all gave me his command, and he who formed me chose the spot for my tent, Saying, ‘In Jacob make your dwelling, in Israel your inheritance.’
Before all ages, in the beginning, he created me, and through all ages I shall not cease to be. In the holy tent I ministered before him, and in Zion I fixed my abode. Thus in the chosen city he has given me rest, in Jerusalem is my domain. I have struck root among the glorious people, in the portion of the LORD, his heritage. “Like a cedar on Lebanon I am raised aloft, like a cypress on Mount Hermon, Like a palm tree in En-gedi, like a rosebush in Jericho, Like a fair olive tree in the field, like a plane tree growing beside the water.
A Reading from the Book of Romans
Romans 12: 1-8
I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship. Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect. For by the grace given to me I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than one ought to think, but to think soberly, each according to the measure of faith that God has apportioned. For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ and individually parts of one another. Since we have gifts that differ accord-

ing to the grace given to us, let us exercise them: if prophecy, in proportion to the faith; if ministry, in ministering; if one is a teacher, in teaching; if one exhorts, in exhortation; if one contributes, in generosity; if one is over others, with diligence; if one does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
SUPPLICATION
May your prayers be with us, O Mother of our Lord, may they be with us;
may the Lord hear your prayer and pardon us.
Today the one who is full of grace is going to the heavenly
dwellings; the choirs of angels accompany her at her
assumption and sing: “Glory to God who has raised you and
magnifies your memory on earth and in heaven
Before her assumption, behold, Mary confides to her only Son;
“O my Son, my only One, would it be possible for me to see
the apostles? Then the Son says to the angels: “Go, bring
the body of the one who is blessed among women.”
Lo, the resplendent dove flies towards the heavens; the angels join with men in glorifying the holy Virgin and with one
voice, say: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of powers who
ascended and brings you to where you will spread your
protecting wings over the Church and her children.
Through you Adam recovers hope; be proud, O honor of men,
through you the world regains peace. Heavens, rejoice;
peoples of the earth, sing praise; spirits of heaven, say:
“Holy is her name, it is wonderful in heaven and on earth.”
HOOTOMO
Let us confess, adore, and praise the holy and glorious Trinity: Father, Son + and Holy Spirit. Amen.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy

Holy are you, O God;
Holy are you, O Strong One;
Holy are you, O Immortal One;
have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us.
Lord, hear us and have mercy on us.
Lord, accept our worship and our prayers.
Lord, come to our assistance and have mercy on us.
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who are in heaven;
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
O Lord,
the night and the day are yours;
you uphold the light and the sun.
Through your power you direct the sequence of the seasons.
O Lord,
you have brought the day to its close and called forth the night; be for us that great Day that never ends.
In the evening let your light shine in our hearts,
and in the darkness of the night
enlighten us with the knowledge of your truth.
And so, through all the days of our lives,
we shall praise you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
To you be glory and may your mercy rest upon us,
now and for ever. Amen.
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us this day which has passed in calm and peace.
Let us recall our failings against the commandments of God
and the Church in thought, word, deed and omission

We ask for God’s pardon as we pray:
“Forgive us, Jesus!”
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
God,
Father in heaven,
by your living and holy name,
keep us from evil and lead us not into temptation;
for we call upon you, O Lord, our God, our constant hope,
glory to you for ever.
O Lord, our Lord,
may our humble worship be pleasing to you;
may our prayers come before you and our actions give
you honor.
Let you mercy, kindness, help, graces and divine love
be poured abundantly upon us poor sinners,
both in heaven and on the earth
which you have created in your goodness.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever. Amen.
DISMISSAL
Peace be with you.
And also with you.
O God,
through the prayers of your Mother and the saints who have
believed in you;
the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors; through the prayers of the just, the priests, the holy fathers, pastors and teachers of the truth faith;
and through the prayers of N., Pope of Rome, N., our Patriarch, and N., our Bishop,
forgive your people and have mercy on your flock.
May God bless, forgive, sanctify, purify, and keep each of the faithful united with us in this spiritual office.

May mercy and compassion be upon us and all the faithful
who dwell here.
May peaceful rest be granted to those who have died in the faith.
May the faithful who live here experience the protection
of Christ’s victorious cross.
May we and all his servants, who adore him with bowed heads,
receive the mercy of the holy and glorious Trinity
Father, Son, + Holy Spirit,
to whom be glory now and for ever. Amen.
May God forgive your sins,
pardon your failings,
and deliver you from the power of the enemy.
May he grant you the remission of your offenses.
Go in peace, and pray to Christ for me.
