PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ our God,
grant us a feast of blessings and a day of happiness,
when we shall joyfully celebrate the assumption
of your Mother in heaven.
Burning with the desire to rejoice one day with her,
may we praise you as do the angels, prophets, apostles,
martyrs and all the saints, for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
Luke 1: 46-55
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant
,
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
The Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name
.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation
.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit
.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly
.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty
.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,”
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Christ,
you are the true light which shines from the Father
from all eternity,
and which in time has shone in the flesh through the Virgin Mary.
May the light of your face shine upon us here in this world
and on that to which we shall one day be called.
There we shall praise you with your Mother and our Mother,
and glorify you, for ever. Amen.
NUHRO
The Light of the just and joy of the upright is Christ Jesus
our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.
Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away, From the true Light there arises for us the Light which illumines our darkened eyes.
His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.
Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.
He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light
on those gazing upon him.
Our King comes in majestic glory.
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.
Let us glorify the majesty of the Son
and give thanks to the almighty Father,
who in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with hope and salvation.
When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in
weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.
The angels and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the glory of the just and upright people of earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.
Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
Glory to you, the One and Eternal,
by your incarnation you have raised up all men
and have brought back to yourself the Blessed Virgin Mary,
your Mother and the Mother of the whole human race.
Allow us, this morning, to meditate on her virtues
and to sing your praise.
To you is due glory and adoration, for ever. Amen.
MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;
Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;
He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;
Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;
You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;
You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.
Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,
Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,
Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.
Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Alleluia.
Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord
a new song of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;
Let the high praises of God
be in their throats.
Alleluia.
Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.
Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.
Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.
Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.
Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.
Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!
Alleluia.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever
.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the heavenly Light,
who existed before all ages and has shone in time
from the Blessed Virgin Mary.
He exalted the memory of his Mother on earth and in heaven
and has raised her above all creatures.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever. Amen.
SEDRO
O Christ, the Good Son and the new Adam, in whom there
was life,
you became man and died as a man to restore life to us by
your resurrection.
You desired that your Mother, the Virgin, be the second Eve
and the cause of the salvation of the human race.
You did not refuse to taste death for us.
Your pure and immaculate Mother also tasted it,
but like you, her body did not suffer corruption.
You seated her as Queen of angels and men.
In her the symbols of the prophets and the saying of the prophets were verified,
and with them we exclaim:
Go in peace, Mother of the Life, you gave life to the world;
Go in peace, pure Eve, you gave us the good fruit of paradise to eat;
Go in peace, daughter of men, the Father has chosen you,
the son has exalted you, and the Spirit has sanctified you;
Go in peace, second heaven, from whence appeared the
resplendent Star.
Holy is she who has elevated you in the earthly Jerusalem,
the holy Church.
And now we ask the Lord, through your intercession:
may he grant true peace to the world, the fruit of love and justice, and eradicate egotism and pride, the source of all evil and sin.
May you who are pure and free of all fault,
grant that we poor children of earth may not always turn our
gaze downward,
but that our spirits and our thoughts may soar towards the heights, from whence we come and to where we are going.
May your feast be a source of benefits and blessings for your children, living and dead,
that they may find rest in heaven.
We shall praise the glorious Trinity,
now and for ever. Amen.
QOLO
Isaiah, why remain silent?
Take up your harp and summon the prophets;
their prophecies have been fulfilled and their visions realized.
Behold, one of our own daughters, higher than the angels,
purer than a lily, and as fragrant as myrtle,
has been chosen by the Creator of all.
She is more beautiful than the sun and moon, higher than the
heavens.
Blessed is he who becomes flesh in her and magnifies her.
Behold the apostles, martyrs, and the just ones gather to hear her singing.
Her countenance is more splendid than the springtime in bloom,
the stars are her crown, the New Jerusalem,
the shining star, is within her.
Holy is the One who exalts the memory of his Mother and makes her feasts more joyful.
Holy is the One who for nine months dwelt within her womb.
Holy is the One who became flesh and saved humanity.
O Church, celebrate and sing:
Blessed is the One who became flesh in her and magnifies her.
ETRO
O Lord Christ,
in your kindness accept the incense and prayers which we
offer you.
May the feast of your Mother in heaven be for us a source of
heavenly graces,
pardon for sinners, healing for the sick, consolation for the afflicted,
and rest for the dead.
We shall glorify you,
now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
The angels came down to bring the Virgin, body and soul, to
heaven.
May we proclaim from the tops of the mountains: the angels
have come down from heaven; let them praise him who has
brought the Virgin to himself, body and soul.
O God, you accepted the prayers of our ancestors, accept our
prayers and have mercy on us.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Esther
Esther 5: 1-3
Now on the third day, Esther put on her royal garments and stood in the inner courtyard, looking toward the royal palace, while the king was seated on his royal throne in the audience chamber, facing the palace doorway. He saw Queen Esther standing in the courtyard, and made her welcome by extending toward her the golden staff which he held. She came up to him, and touched the top of the staff. Then the king said to her,
“What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even if it is half of my kingdom, it shall be granted you.” “If it please your majesty,”
Esther replied, “come today with Haman to a banquet I have prepared.” And the king ordered,
“Have Haman make haste to fulfill the wish of Esther.” So the king went with Haman to the banquet Esther had prepared.
A Reading from the First Letter of John
1 John 3: 1-6
See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure. Everyone who commits sin commits lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.
No one who remains in him sins; no one who sins has seen him or known him.
