holy apostles Peter and Paul,
who led your infant Church.
They proclaimed the gospel to Israel
and to the nations
and received the martyr’s crown.
Bless us through their intercession.
Let our prayers ascend to you from sincere
hearts and lips.
We shall praise the life giving Trinity,
now and for ever. Amen.

For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endues for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
Glory to you, O Christ,
on this morning of the feast of your apostles Peter and Paul.
Inspire us to meditate on their lives,
to assume their zeal and to be your witnesses
by our lives.
May we bear your gospel by word and action,
and deserve to glorify you one day with them in your
kingdom,
for ever. Amen.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
I will give thanks to you among the peoples,
O Lord; I will chant your praise among the nations.
Psalm 108: 2-7
My heart is steadfast, O God; my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and chant praise.
Awake, O my soul; awake, lyre and harp;
I will wake the dawn.
I will give thanks to you among the peoples, O Lord;
I will chant your praise among the nations.
For your kindness towers to the heavens,
and your faithfulness to the skies.
Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
over all the earth be your glory!
That your loved ones may escape,
help us by your right hand, and answer us.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon:
I will give thanks to you among the peoples,
O Lord; I will chant your praise among the nations.
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
you have placed you victorious right hand on
the head of Peter,
who is the crown of the Church, in both the East and the West.
You made him the Shepherd of shepherds and Head of the leaders.
Your right hand also gave Paul the strength to travel to so many countries.
May your hand now bless your Church, assembled in your name.
May it help your sovereign pontiff, your leads and all
your people.
Protect them as a light to the nations,
so that they may praise you, O Christ, the light of the world, and glorify your Father and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
NUHRO
The Light of the just and joy of the upright is Christ Jesus our Lord.
Begotten of the Father, he manifested himself to us.
He came to rescue us from darkness and to fill us with the radiance of his light.
Day is dawning upon us; the power of darkness is fading away, From the true Light there arises for us the Light which illumines our darkened eyes.
His glory shines upon the world and enlightens the very depths of the abyss.
Death is annihilated, night has vanished, and the gates of Sheol are broken.
Creatures lying in darkness from ancient times are clothed in light.
The dead arise from the dust and sing because they have a Savior.
He brings salvation and grants us life.
He ascends to his Father on high.
He will return in glorious splendor and shed his light on those gazing upon him.
Our King comes in majestic glory.
Let us light our lamps and go forth to meet him.
Let us find our joy in him, for he has found joy in us.
He will indeed rejoice us with his marvelous light.
Let us glorify the majesty of the Son and give thanks to
the almighty Father,
who in an outpouring of love, sent him to us, to fill us with hope and salvation.
When he manifests himself, the saints awaiting him in
weariness and sorrow,
will go forth to meet him with lighted lamps.
The angles and guardians of heaven will rejoice in the glory of the just and upright people of earth;
together, crowned with victory, they will sing hymns and psalms.
Stand up then and be ready!
Give thanks to our King and Savior, who will come in great glory to gladden us with his marvelous light in his kingdom.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
THIRD PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O only Son,
you have inflamed the heart of Peter by the fire of the
Holy Spirit.
When he was fearful and troubled.
You have built your Church upon him,
and have given him the power to bind and loose.
You guided Paul and made him bear your name before
the nations, the kings and the children of Israel;
answer our prayers and accept our praises this morning.
Pour your blessings upon us through the intercession of your
holy apostles.
To you be glory, for ever. Amen.
MORNING PSALMS
Psalm 148
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights;
Praise him, all you his angels,
praise him, all you his hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
and you waters above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he commanded and they were created;
He established them forever and ever;
he gave them a duty which shall not pass away.
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all depths;
Fire and hail, snow and mist,
storm winds that fulfill his word;
You mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars;
You wild beasts and all tame animals,
you creeping things and you winged fowl.
Let the kings of the earth and all peoples,
the princes and all the judges of the earth,
Young men too, and maidens,
old men and boys,
Praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
His majesty is above earth and heaven,
and he has lifted up the horn of his people.
Be this his praise from all his faithful ones,
from the children of Israel, the people close to him.
Alleluia.
Psalm 149:1-6
Alleluia.
Sing to the Lord a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the Lord loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.
Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing joy upon their couches;
Let the high praises of God
be in their throats.
Alleluia.
Psalm 150
Alleluia.
Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,
praise him in the firmament of his strength.
Praise him for his mighty deeds,
praise him for his sovereign majesty.
Praise him with the blast of the trumpet,
praise him with lyre and harp.
Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipe.
Praise him with sounding cymbals,
praise him with clanging cymbals.
Let everything that has breath
praise the Lord!
Alleluia.
Psalm 117
Praise the Lord, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy toward us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever
.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the Lord,
who sent his son for our salvation;
to this Son, who builds church upon Peter
and placed its foundations upon the upon the apostles;
to the holy Spirit, who strengthened, sanctified,
and made them lights to the nations and models
for us to follow.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this morning,
and all the days of our lives,
now and forever. Amen.
SEDRO
O Christ our God,
to you be glory and praise,
for the works which you have done.
You chose for yourself twelve apostles,
whose only possession was their good will.
You formed and instructed them
And then entrusted your church, your mission and your gospel
to them.
You sent them throughout the world,
so that they might transform its selfishness
and lead people to love, understand and help each other.
It pleased you to give your Apostle Peter responsibility
for the church;
he was crucified for you, and thus imitated you in all things.
You chose Paul, the Pharisee, who traveled to the nations
until he was beheaded.
His blood became the good seed for Christians.
And so we cry out:
You are the pillars of the Church and the shelter for all nations: You are the salt of the earth and the yeast which causes the dough to rise;
You are the two active workers who have traded their talents
and have gained more;
You spread the gospel, founded Churches and the faith took root; You have shown salvation to a world and strengthened the faith.
And now we beg you:
protected the Church which honors your memories
and give us Shepherds who will watch over the flock
and be ready to die for it.
Put in the hearts of Christians that same fire of zeal which inflamed you.
May we be apostles who are eager to evangelize the world,
not only through our words,
but by our lives, actions and all our works of justice, peace and love.
O twelve apostles, obtain for us from the good Master,
understanding of his teaching.
May we carry his cross and glorify the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
QOLO
Holy are you, O God, you sent your Spirit upon the upper room and gave knowledge to the simple.
Holy are you, O Strong One, you strengthened them in combat
before judges and governors.
Holy are you, O Immortal One, you died, rose and taught your
martyrs to die without fear.
You were crucified for us, died and gave us life. You sent your apostles to spread the good news of your death and
resurrection.
Behold, today the Church and her children adore you in the joy of the feast of Peter, Paul and the other apostles.
O Lord, grant us pardon.
ETRO
O God,
look upon us who are assembled in your name.
Accept the prayers and incense we offer you on the feast of
our fathers, the pure apostles.
Grant hope to the living,
healing to the sick,
forgiveness to sinners
and eternal rest to the dead.
May we glorify you with one voice
and praise the life-giving Trinity,
now and for ever. Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
The Apostles preach the good news in the world and
courageously died for Christ.
Our Lord placed Simon as the foundation of the Church and Paul was this skillful builder who strengthened the building.
O God, you accepted the prayers of our ancestors,
accept our prayers and have mercy on us.
SCRIPTURE READING
A Reading from the Book of Act
Acts 22: 2-21
When they heard him addressing them in Hebrew they became all the more quiet. And he continued, “I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city. At the feet of Gamaliel I was educated strictly in our ancestral law and was zealous for God, just as all of you are today. I persecuted this Way to death, binding both men and women and delivering them to prison. Even the high priest and the whole council of elders can testify on my behalf. For from them I even received letters to the brothers and set out for Damascus to bring back to Jerusalem in chains for punishment those there as well. “On that journey as I drew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from the sky suddenly shone around me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ I replied, ‘Who are you, sir?’
And he said to me, ‘I am Jesus the Nazorean whom you are persecuting.’ My companions saw the light but did not hear the voice of the one who spoke to me. I asked, ‘What shall I do, sir?’
The Lord answered me, ‘Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told about everything appointed for you to do.’ Since I could see nothing because of the brightness of that light, I was led by hand by my companions and entered Damascus. “A certain Ananias, a devout observer of the law, and highly spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, came to me and stood there and said, ‘Saul, my brother, regain your sight.’ And at that very moment I regained my sight and saw him. Then he said, ‘The God of our ancestors designated you to know his will, to see the Righteous One, and to hear the sound of his voice; for you will be his witness before all to what you have seen and heard. Now, why delay? Get up and have yourself baptized and your sins washed away, calling upon his name.’ “After I had returned to Jerusalem and while I was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance and saw the Lord saying to me, ‘Hurry, leave Jerusalem at once, because they will not accept your testimony about me.’ But I replied,
‘Lord, they themselves know that from synagogue to synagogue I used to imprison and beat those who believed in you. And when the blood of your witness Stephen was being shed, I myself stood by giving my approval and keeping guard over the cloaks of his murderers.’ Then he said to me, ‘Go, I shall send you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”
A Reading from the Second Letter to Timothy
2 Timothy 4: 1-8
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power: proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.
For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths. But you, be self-possessed in all circumstances; put up with hardship; perform the work of an evangelist; fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.
