Monday Evening Cleansing of the Leper
TUESDAY Ramsho
INTRODUCTION
DOXOLOGY
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as we begin and until we conclude.
May mercy and compassion be poured forth upon us
in this world and the next.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.
OPENING PRAYER
Lord God,
enable us this evening to address our pure praise to you and to meditate on your divine teachings,
for they are a balm for our wounds and remedy for our souls,
which come to you shedding tears of repentance.
Grant that we may prepare ourselves for the feast of
your resurrection with pure hearts and consciences,
so that we may meet you here in joy and happiness
and there we shall joyfully praise you with your chosen ones, for ever.
Amen.
GREETING
Peace be with the Church and her children.
PRAISE OF THE ANGELS
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace on earth and good will to all.
Praise the Lord all you nations,
glorify him all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
and peace on earth and good will to all.
PSALMODY
FIRST PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O God,
during this blessed Lent raise our thoughts to you,
draw us away from the mire of sin,
and strip us of every bad intention.
Take from our hearts the love of money and wealth,
so that we may understand the value of evangelic poverty, reject that which contradicts your love,
and offer praise and glory to you, your Father and your Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.
Amen.
PSALM 51
Psalm 51: 3-19
Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;
in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.
Thoroughly wash me from my guilt
and of my sin cleanse me.
For I acknowledge my offense,
and my sin is before me always:
“Against you only have I sinned,
and done what is evil in your sight”
That you may be justified in your sentence,
vindicated when you condemn.
Indeed, in guilt was I born,
and in sin my mother conceived me;
Behold, you are pleased with sincerity of heart,
and in my inmost being you teach me wisdom.
Cleanse me of sin with hyssop, that I may be purified;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness;
the bones you have crushed shall rejoice.
Turn away your face from my sins,
and blot out all my guilt.
A clean heart create for me, O God,
and a steadfast spirit renew within me.
Cast me not out from your presence,
and your holy spirit take not from me.
Give me back the joy of your salvation,
and a willing spirit sustain in me.
I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners shall return to you.
Free me from blood guilt, O God, my saving God;
then my tongue shall revel in your justice.
O LORD, open my lips,
and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.
For you are not pleased with sacrifices;
should I offer a holocaust, you would not accept it.
My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit;
a heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn.
To you returns the praise, O God.
PSALM OF THE DAY
Antiphon:
Happy is he whose fault is taken away,
whose sin is covered.
Psalm 32
Happy is he whose fault is taken away,
whose sin is covered.
Happy the man to whom the LORD imputes not guilt,
in whose spirit there is no guile.
As long as I would not speak, my bones wasted away
with my groaning all the day,
For night and day your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you,
my guilt I covered not.
I said, “I confess my faults to the LORD”
and you took away the guilt of my sin.
For this shall every faithful man pray to you
in time of stress.
Though deep waters overflow,
they shall not reach him,
You are my shelter; from distress you will preserve me;
with glad cries of freedom you will ring me around.
I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk;
I will counsel you, keeping my eye on you.
Be not senseless like horses or mules:
with bit and bridle their temper must be curbed,
else they will not come near you.
Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
but kindness surrounds him who trust in the LORD.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you just;
exult all you upright of heart.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Antiphon:
Happy is he whose fault is taken away,
whose sin is covered.
SECOND PRAYER
Lord, have mercy on us and save us.
O Lord,
on this evening and at all times, protect your Church,
give her children one heart and one will.
Watch over your Church
and never allow the evil one to sow division and enmity among brothers and sisters.
Take away jealousy and sow the good grain that may become your life giving body,
and we will praise and glorify you,
now and for ever.
Amen.
EVENING PSALMS
Psalm 141: 1-4
O LORD, to you I call; hasten to me;
hearken to my voice when I call upon you;
Let my prayer come like incense before you;
the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice.
O LORD, set a watch before my mouth,
a guard at the door of my lips.
Let not my heart incline to the evil
of engaging in deeds of wickedness
With men who are evildoers;
and let me not partake of their dainties.
Psalm 142
With a loud voice I cry out to the LORD;
with a loud voice I beseech the LORD.
My complaint I pour out before him;
before him I lay bare my distress.
When my spirit is faint within me,
you know my path.
In the way along which I walk
they have hid a trap for me.
I look to the right to see,
but there is no one who pays me heed.
I have lost all means of escape;
there is no one who cares for my life.
I cry out to you, O LORD:
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
Attend to my cry,
for I am brought low indeed.
Rescue me from my persecutors,
for they are too strong for me.
Lead me forth from prison,
that I may give thanks to your name.
The just shall gather around me
when you have been good to me.
Psalm 119: 105-112
A lamp to my feet is your word,
a light to my path.
I resolve and swear
to keep your just ordinances.
I am very much afflicted;
O LORD, give me life according to your word.
Accept, O LORD, the free homage of my mouth,
and teach me your decrees.
Though constantly I take my life in my hands,
yet I forget not your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me,
but from your precepts I have not strayed.
Your decrees are my inheritance forever;
the joy of my heart they are.
I intend in my heart to fulfill your statutes
always to the letter.
Psalm 117
Praise the LORD, all you nations;
glorify him, all you peoples!
For steadfast is his mercy towards us,
and the truth of the Lord endures for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
now and for ever. Amen.
Alleluia
[SOOGHITO/HYMN]
In expectation and trials, our souls praise you.
Like the five virgins, behold our lamps.
Our faith, our hope and our love are wounded;
the wind lashes at our burning lamps.
O desire of my soul, it is to you that I cry:
When will the bridal party come?
Already my spirit is weakening.
HOOSOYO
PROEMION
Praise, glory and honor to the merciful One
who lived among us and became our Brother, Light, Example and Way.
He is the Savior who fasted, prayed and suffered for us
in order to teach us to fast, pray and deny ourselves.
To the Good One is due glory and honor this evening,
and all the days of our lives,
now and for ever.
Amen.
SEDRO
O Christ, our God,
our strength, our refuge and our aid,
in your mercy you saved us
and by your gospel you counselled us to avoid lies and to act in sincerity and uprightness.
You taught us to pass this holy Lent in prayer and mortification;
by your pure fast you led us on the way to the kingdom.
Through prayer and fasting Moses prepared himself to meet the Most High
and to receive the divine commandments;
through prayer and fasting, Elijah manifested his zeal to testify to the true God;
Daniel closed the jaws of the lions;
and the children of the house of Ananias escaped the flames of fire.
Through prayer and fasting, the people of Nineveh repented and abandoned their error;
ascetics were sanctified and hermits justified;
virgins acquired purity and religious sanctity;
in fasting and prayer true Christians have lived and kept their faith;
in fasting and prayer the children of the believing Church live from one end of the world to the other.
And now we beg you, O Lover of all,
make our fast pure and holy during this blessed Lent,
so that, like Moses, we might be worthy to see your face,
like Elijah, be zealous for your name, close our mouths to evil, and conquer the desires of the world.
Lord, teach us that your yoke is sweet and your burden light,
then we will know and love you and love others in you and for you.
Let this Lent be a time when we accomplish good works, giving of our hearts and money,
and glorifying the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
now and for ever.
Amen.
QOLO
Come, brothers and sisters, let us take refuge in fasting and prayer
as did our righteous ancestors.
Happy are those who fast and purify their hearts of all evil and deceit;
happy are those who fast, refusing not only food, but passions and desires.
The one who perfects this Lent in penance and tears
will enter into the kingdom and inherit the paradise of the just.
ETRO
O Christ our God,
in your divine plan you fasted
and promised that by fasting and prayer our sins would be forgiven.
Receive our fasting and prayer,
and pardon our sins and faults by this incense (prayer) we offer this evening.
May we enter into the joy of your resurrection,
and we shall glorify you with your living and Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
Amen.
READINGS
MAZMOORO
The time to receive life has come;
let us continue to work with God.
May the prayer of the blessed just ones help us;
our love for God will give us life.
May God who accepted the fast and offerings of our ancestors,
accept our fast and our prayer and have mercy on us.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
A Reading from the Book of Genesis
Genesis 9: 1-18
God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: “Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth. Dread fear of you shall come upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon all the creatures that move about on the ground and all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered. Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants. Only flesh with its lifeblood still in it you shall not eat. For your own lifeblood, too, I will demand an accounting: from every animal I will demand it, and from man in regard to his fellow man I will demand an accounting for human life. If anyone sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; For in the image of God has man been made. Be fertile, then, and multiply; abound on earth and subdue it.” God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark. I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth.” God added: “This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living
creature with you: I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings. As the bow appears in the clouds, I will see it and recall the everlasting covenant that I have established between God and all living beings — all mortal creatures that are on earth.” God told Noah:
“This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all mortal creatures that are on earth.” The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan.
SUPPLICATION
O Son, by your fast you saved the Church from error;
hear our supplication and have mercy on us.
You reconciled heaven and earth, grant peace to your Church
and keep her children in the light of the cross.
Behold the fast of the First-born, source of our victory;
by fasting he has made victorious those who could not triumph otherwise.
Blessed is the First-born, who surrounded our weakness with the strength of his great fast.
Behold the fast which makes us noble;
the First-born showed it to us to magnify the small without their knowing it.
Fast purifies your soul so that you may contemplate God and deserve his vision.
The weight of our body of dust exhausts the soul.
Blessed is he who gave us fasting as wings to fly to him.
Fasting is a good and beautiful thing. The one who is purified by it can contemplate God;
the person whose eye is pure can see him according to the grace received.
Let us purify our thoughts that we may be able to contemplate the pure One
who by his fast, has conquered the evil one, the corrupter of all.
May the holy books be a mirror for us wherein we shall see our fast,
they have made a distinction between fast and true fast,
prayer and true prayer, blessing by God or rejection by him.
There are people whose fast is agreeable to him and others who are reproved.
There are false prayers and others which are a medicine of life.
Brothers and sisters, may our Lord rejoice in our fasting, as he rejoiced in his own.
May Christ who accepted the fasting of our ancestors,
accept our fasting and our prayers, and have mercy on us.
Exalt, O Lord, the memory of your Mother and your saints;
through their prayers grant pardon to us and to our deceased.
Through the prayer of your Mother, the prophets, apostles and martyr,
watch over the living, and in your mercy, forgive those who have died.
HOOTOMO
Let us confess, adore, and praise the holy and glorious Trinity:
Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
TRISAGION
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Holy are you, O God;
Holy are you, O Strong One;
Holy are you, O Immortal One;
have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Lord, forgive us and have mercy on us.
Lord, hear us and have mercy on us.
Lord, accept our worship and our prayers.
Lord, come to our assistance and have mercy on us.
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who are in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.
Amen.
O Lord
the night and the day are yours;
you uphold the light and the sun.
Through your power you direct the sequence of the seasons.
O Lord,
you have brought the day to its close and called forth the night.
Be for us that great Day that never ends.
In the evening let your light shine in our hearts,
and in the darkness of the night,
enlighten us with the knowledge of your truth.
And so, through all the days of our lives,
we shall praise you, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
Amen.
EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Let us thank God for all the graces he has bestowed on us this day
which has passed in calm and peace.
Let us recall our failings against the commandments of God an the Church
in thought, word, deed, or omission.
We ask for God’s pardon as we pray.
“Forgive us, Jesus!”
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
Glory be to you, O Lord.
God,
Father in heaven,
by your living and holy name,
keep us from evil and lead us not into temptation:
for we call upon you, O Lord, our God, our constant hope, glory to you for ever.
O Lord, our Lord,
may our humble worship be pleasing to you;
may our prayers come before you and our actions give you honor.
Let your mercy, kindness, help, grace and divine love
be poured abundantly upon us poor sinners,
both in heaven and on the earth
which you have created in your goodness.
O Lord, our God, to you be glory for ever.
Amen.
DISMISSAL
Peace be with you.
And with your spirit.
O God,
through the prayers of your Mother and the saints who have believed in you;
through the prayers of the prophets, apostles, martyrs and confessors;
through the prayers of the just, the priests, the holy fathers, the pastors and doctors of true faith;
through the prayers of N., Pope of Rome, N., our Patriarch, and N., our Bishop,
forgive your people and have mercy on your flock.
May God bless, forgive, sanctify, purify,
and keep each of the faithful united with us in this spiritual office.
May mercy and compassion be upon us and all the faithful who dwell here.
May peaceful rest be granted to those who have died in the faith.
May the faithful who live here experience the protection of his victorious cross.
May we and all his servants who adore him with bowed head,
receive the mercy of the holy and glorious Trinity:
Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit,
to whom be glory now and for ever.
Amen.
May God forgive your sins,
pardon your failings,
and deliver you from the power of the enemy.
May he grant you the remission of your offenses.
Go in peace, and pray to Christ for me.
